Job description

We are looking to recruit a full time Health Care Assistant to work up to 37.5 hours per week within our Outpatients Department at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle with a specialist interest in ENT Speciality.

You will work with indirect supervision under the Registered Nurse; assisting with nursing care and providing information and assistance to the patient, their relatives and carers. You will also utilise acquired skills gained from an extended role as directed by the lead clinical nurse of the department.

Applicants will possess GCSE English & Maths or equivalent; National Care Certificate or commitment to complete as part of induction process, and an NVQ 3 in care (willingness to complete within one year of start date) or equivalent experience. You will also have experience of working in a customer focused / caring environment.

Working within the Head/Neck Speciality will give you a variety of varying skills which will enhance the Patient journey. You will be allocated a Mentor who will direct, support and nurture you in this field of nursing until you feel confident. the team are extremely welcoming and you will be very much involved in all aspects of Patient Care.

The job entails setting up/running and closing down ENT clinics. Extended skills namely, venepuncture, ECG recording, basic observations, assisting with Scope procedures/cleaning of the scopes, provision of relevant paperwork all of which internal house training will be provided.

The essential criteria for this role includes the requirement to have a care certificate or the willingness and ability to undertake this.

The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as followsif applicable to the post:

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.
