The role of a Health Care Assistant is invaluable within our organisation, they will be working with a team of likeminded individuals who are dedicated to providing care and companionship to individuals who are either vulnerable, elderly, have additional care needs, have physical or sensory disabilities or learning difficulties within their own home and various other settings. This could be supported living or a residential care home.
Duties will included, assisting clients with all personal care needs including, undressing, washing, bathing, and toileting needs, assisting clients with mobility problems and other physical disabilities, including incontinence, and help in the use and care of aids and personal equipment and to support and care for client who require end of life care.
Health Care Assistants are to engage in the promotion of the mental and physical well-being of clients through talking to them, taking them out, and sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies, and recreation. They are required to make and change beds and all domestic tasks as required. Where required, to assist with clients’ laundry. To read and write reports and take part in staff and residents’ meetings and training activities as directed.
The primary aim of our services is to encourage clients to remain as independent as possible; to enable and assist clients to maintain on a day-to-day basis as much autonomy and independence as possible. It is important that employees agree and record with the client their needs wishes and preferences and how these will be met.
Further responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Identifying and supporting appropriately clients with capacity and those who lack capacity.
- Record appropriately all decisions which relate to clients who lack capacity.
- Involve and consult with clients, their families, representatives, or advocates to ensure that the clients views are expressed and acted upon.
- Update and continually improve practice by a mutually agreed method which may include attendance at staff meetings, learning support briefings, and one-to-one supervision.
- Be aware of requirements regarding codes of practice and relevant codes of conduct where appropriate issued by professional bodies.
- Understand the requirement of the Fundamental Standard Regulations 9 – 20, concerning the Care Quality Commission Inspect regime and its importance to your workplace practice.
- Promote good practice and be vigilant in recognising and reporting practice that does not meet the defined standard.
- To act always, to safeguard residents from any form of abuse and report such concerns immediately.
Experience in the health and social care sector is preferable but not required as full training will be provided. A genuine interest in the sector and a caring nature is essential.
A relevant NVQ or QCF qualification will be advantageous, but not necessary as these can be gained whist within your role.
