Main Purpose of the Job:
To look after the physical, psychological, spiritual, social and environmental needs and preferences of service users using a personalised approach.
To uphold the service users privacy, dignity, independence, choice and human rights
To build trusting relationships with service users, their family, friends and those important to them.
To support service users to have a positive presence in the service users home and local community within a supportive, structured and well planned approach to everyday experiences and to support the service user to become a valued member of the local community.
You will assist the service user to develop good interpersonal skills and adopt coping strategies that will enhance their quality of life.
Working in accordance with Government Legislation, fundamental outcomes, policies & procedures, guidelines and working practices as indicated you will be responsible for carrying out an individual’s care plan and following specific written and verbal guidelines relating to the care of the individual.
Responsibilities to the service User include:
- Including service users in all decisions that have an effect on their lives.
- To ensure that all service users are given a high standard of care
- To encourage and support the development of the service user with daily living tasks
- To support service users to identify and achieve lifelong goals, i.e. work placements, relationships
- To encourage and support service users to take assessed risks.
- To act as advocate for service users if required
- To engage the service user in meaningful activities that will enhance their life experience and maintain their wellbeing
- Respect for service users culture, diversity and beliefs
- Manage any behaviour that might challenge and be able to deal with stressful situations recognising and resolving conflict sensitively
- Understand the importance of keeping a person safe and have the ability to recognise an unsafe or abusive situation.
- The factual reporting of events that have occurred and to participate in service users team meetings
- To participate in outings and holidays with service users
- To safely administer or support service users to self administer medications as prescribed by health services and in accordance with the companies’ medication policy.
Responsibilities to the company include;
- Delivering a high standard of care based on written guidelines
- To ensure good working practices and to strictly adhere to all company policies and procedures
- To participate in staff and client meetings
- To work flexibly within the 24 hour rota to ensure the safe management of care
- To provide written information as required within the appropriate format and to maintain confidentiality at all times and not to divulge information to anyone who is not authorised to see it
- A commitment to promote and uphold the companies’ policy on equality and diversity and the ability to challenge anti-discriminatory practice.
- To assist in the development of staff by sharing skills and experience with other staff
- A commitment to ongoing personal development
- To observe all health & safety rules and take reasonable care to promote health & safety of self and others and raise any concerns to the registered manager as appropriate
- Any other ad hoc duties requested by the registered manager and appropriate to this role
Qualifications ;
No formal qualifications are required however you must:
- Be a good communicator
- Have good literacy and numeracy skills
- Be prepared to make a commitment to training.
Experience;
Experience with people with a learning disability / Mental Health diagnosis is not essential as training is given to all staff, however the following experience is required:
- working within a team
- following written and verbal guidelines
