ABOUT THE WORTHGATE SCHOOL
The Worthgate School offers an outstanding international pre-university educational experience to students aged 13+ from all over the world. Students study for GCSEs, A levels and University Foundation Programmes, and preparing for admission to universities across the country and elsewhere. We pride ourselves on our approach to teaching and learning, with small class sizes and an informal atmosphere ensuring that students are treated as individuals and build great relationships with staff.
We are currently looking to appoint a friendly and proactive assistant into our Health Care team at the school. You will work alongside the nurses supporting our boarding students. This role would suit someone looking to gain entry level experience into a medical support role. We are interested in hearing from people who are currently working in the care (or similar) sector, but who are looking for a change in direction. If you have some but not all of the requirements listed, please feel free to apply, for this role the right attitude and nature are as important as previous experience and full training will be provided.
OVERVIEW OF THE JOB
You will work alongside the College Nurse in assessing, providing treatment and supporting students according to the College’s Medical Care Policy.
REPORTS TO
You will be directly responsible to the Assistant Principal Boarding and Welfare. You will work within the framework set by and under the general direction of the Principal.
- Manage the sick bay (keep it clean, change and make beds)
- Make students comfortable at the sick bay when they are feeling unwell and being monitored (arrange and offer them meals and drinks if required)
- Order medical stock
- Monitor, stock and store medication safely
- Assist with data entry
- Administer medication
- Assist with Doctor’s Registration for new students
- Assist the medical team in the delivery of Care and Support Plans
- Assist the medical team with new arrival medical checks
- Work alongside the College Nurse in assessing, giving treatment and supporting students according to the college’s medical care policy
- Answer telephone calls from staff, students and respond to emails from doctor’s surgeries and other agencies
- Book appropriate medical appointments for students
- Accompany under 16 year old students to Doctor’s, Dental and Optician’s appointment
- Assist with the day-to-day running of the health centre
- Support the Medical Team / PSHE / RSE curriculum by participating and when relevant leading on workshops in the context of health and wellbeing.
