Summary of position:
The Health and Safety Officer is a hands-on health and safety professional in a manufacturing/production environment ensuring the Company is compliant with all H & S laws and regulations.
Reporting to the Managing Director the Health and Safety Officer will have overall responsibility for health and safety across the site, developing current processes, procedures and health and safety initiatives alongside other managers.
Additional/refresher training will be available upon completion of probation.
Primary Responsibilities:
Legal and compliance
- Develop and implement a H & S strategy that is aligned to board priorities
- Provide Health and Safety and Environment policy guidance
- Ensure the integrity of the Company's H&S management system to ISO 45001:2018 standard.
- Conduct compliance audits and workplace inspections.
- Review company operational processes to ensure they are in line with external safety legislations
- Deliver recommendations on safety topics such as proper waste disposal, fire regulations, and noise
- Produce HSE and KPI reporting statistics.
- Evaluate and report on staff's compliance with health and safety rules
- Share information, suggestions, and observations with directors and managers to create consistency in safety standards throughout the production and the entire company
- Analyse accident, incident and near miss trends and metrics, delivering relevant solutions that meet the needs of the organisation.
- Develop and implement safety, procedures, and policies for production operations
- Monitor work processes and procedures to identify unsafe practices or breach of safety regulations
- Inspect production machinery, equipment, and processes to make sure they are safe
- Conduct risk assessments to identify work areas with high risk of operational hazard and provide SSOW
- Work closely with management and employees to improve H & S engagement
- Liaising with law enforcement and other investigators who are present at the time of a serious accident
- Chair the Senior H&S Meeting and the H&S Committee
- In collaboration with HR establish an annual learning and development plan
- Deliver Health & Safety training and employee & contractor inductions
- Participating in continuing CPD to update knowledge of health and safety protocols and techniques
Qualifications and Training:
Essential - NEBOSH, IOSH Managing Safely
Desirable - NEBOSH Diploma
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment
- Risk assessment, auditing, inspection
- Analysis of data
Knowledge and Skills:
- Health and Safety Regulations
- Co-ordinating general workplace operations to ensure compliance safety standards
- Developing safe operational strategies and solutions to minimise workplace incidence
- Manage deadlines and prioritise tasks and demands under time pressures.

Pay:
- £28,000-£38,000 per annum (Depending on Qualifications and Experience)

Holidays:
Our holiday calendar runs from January to December and we offer 23 days plus national bank holidays in England and Wales, with an additional 1 day after your 3rd Christmas and another additional day after your 5th Christmas with the company.
