1 x Health and Safety Manager (Full-time, permanent)
Location: Coventry
Position Summary:
To advise and collaborate with the local leadership team to ensure that our Distribution Centres are always Health and Safety compliant. To help build and develop a culture of positive safety behaviours and systems. The role requires strong leadership and collaboration skills, plus the ability to implement changes and successfully deliver safety innovations. To proactively manage, lead and inspire the whole DC team and to support them with the further development of Martin Brower’s safety culture by continually improving our working environment and our ways of working, to empower our team members to keep themselves and their colleagues safe at all times.
Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
- Advise on current and future Health and Safety legislation and their implications. Ensuring that compliance issues are resolved if and when required.
- Responsibility for the implementation of the Martin Brower Health and Safety policy, arrangements and instructions ensuring regular reviews are completed and outcomes are communicated.
- Responsibility to ensure robust safety systems are in place and maintained.
- Conduct Health and Safety risk assessments to ensure that where possible risk is eliminated, or where not reasonably practicable - minimalised.
- Consistent application of network policies and procedures.
- Ensure all safety incidents are inputted into Martin Brower’s ZiP system correctly and in a timely manner, ensuring effective investigation and corrective actions are implemented.
- Ensure all incidents are aligned with all Martin Brower reporting requirements, such as US KPIs and NFU Insurance reports.
- Drive the Company safety culture through recognised channels throughout the DC.
- Ensure all of the Management Team are trained in effectively carrying out accident investigations and compliance with First Aid, Fire Marshall, spill response obligations.
- Lead in the development of our training offering and in delivery of ad hoc training across the DC.
- Help ensure safety compliance to all other audit standards – Baseline, DQMP, FSSC, SWA, Environmental and ISO.
- Baseline – Review standards, actions, document control index and SOP
- DQMP – Training matrix, Toolbox talks and briefs, plus job sheets
- SWA – all Health and Safety requirements and conformances
- Environmental / ISO – Review of training tracker and job sheets
- Manage Health and Safety training matrix for management and non-operational personnel based at the DC.
- Orchestrate regular audits within each department.
- Regular communication with each department to monitor progress on actions and improvements.
- Completion of Health and Safety SWOT and observations.
- Review, simplify and improve current documentation and trackers.
- Review and update DC risk assessments in line with Martin Brower and legal requirements.
- Ensuring the business is up to date on legislation changes, industry trends and best practice. Ensuring effective communication within the business.
- Ensuring Martin Brower is at the forefront of innovation in Health and Safety.
- Overall compliance reporting and guidance on the Health & Safety committee.
- Other responsibilities as deemed necessary.
Posting Information: Position Requirements:
Required Skills and Experience:
- NEBOSH diploma or equivalent.
- Broad understanding of compliance requirements in transport.
- HACCP Level 2.
- Fully conversant with all current Health and Safety legislation and codes of practice
- Experience of implementing ISO standards and accreditations.
- Knowledge and experience of CDM Legislation.
- Knowledge and experience in Food Safety Management; DQMP, BRC, NSF / CMI or similar.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft packages e.g., Excel, Word and PowerPoint and other digital databases and business systems.
- Strong organisation skills and ability to prioritise workload.
- Engaging and collaborative approach to support site managers and teams.
- Able to work with, influence and engage a range of stakeholders and other essential parties.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Actively seeks new knowledge and personal / professional development.
- Flexible in role and willing to adapt to changing tasks and priorities.
