Job Context: The post holder will be a H&S professional able to interpret the various requirements and implement working practices that ensure compliance with relevant Legislation. Providing advice & support to managers to implement audit and monitoring and undertake professional site inspections and audits requiring specific H&S knowledge.
The individual will ensure the organisation complies with current Health and Safety legislation, approved codes of practice and guidance in relation to employment and service provision. Working proactively with managers to establish and maintain a system that promotes a culture of safe working practices across the organisation. Whilst providing support, guidance and Health and Safety assurance to senior management.
Principle Responsibilities
1 Act as the “competent person” at a corporate level as defined by the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations.
2 To ensure that the Company’s Health and Safety Policy is implemented consistently across the Group.
3 To monitor, evaluate and review the Health and Safety policy and practice, make recommendation, and implement new policies and procedures as required.
4 To advise the Board and Senior Management of the implications of current and emerging Heath and Safety legislation, making recommendation and generating action plans to ensure compliance.
5 To support Managers to maintain safe systems, providing specialist advice and support.
6 To investigate or where appropriate to assist others to investigate the circumstances and causes of adverse events and take necessary steps to prevent recurrence using root cause analysis
7 Provide reports/information on corporate health & safety performance, and participate in corporate working groups/projects
8 To maintain effective links with insurers, enforcing authorities, trade union representatives and other relevant organisations e.g. EHO, HSE, ATD, NaSHiCs, FSA, UNISON etc.
9 To Chair the Health and Safety and Emergency Planning working group and participate in other groups as directed.
10 To assist in the preparation and delivery of learning & development at appropriate levels as identified, Undertaking presentations on health & safety as required.
11 Support with the embedding and improvement of business continuity policy and procedures throughout the organisation
12 To assist and participate in quality audit of Health and Safety across the organisation
13 To manage performance through coaching and develop a coaching culture within teams/services
14 Motivates others by enthusiasm and commitment to achieving team objectives, engendering a culture of trust.
15 Regularly communicate how the team contributes to the realisation of Somerset Care’s vision and values.
16 The post holder will make themselves available out of hours should this be required to assist in the response to an emergency or Business Continuity issue.
17 Proactively seeks to improve the service. Manages health and safety in accordance with policy and procedure. Identifies risks to the provision of the service and implements procedures to manage their likelihood and impact.
18 Develops innovative solutions to problems that arise, considering costs and benefits. Encourages and empowers the team to identify potential solutions to issues arising.
19 Is able to vary communication style and method to suit different people and situations. Regularly communicates on a face-to-face basis externally, as well as with the team (for example; internal and external e-mails, chairing meetings, presentations etc.)
20 Ensures that service-users are the central focus to all aspects of service delivery and its improvement. Understands colleagues’ roles and boundaries.
