Through Joii, pet mums and dads can video call a vet 24/7, use an intelligent pet symptom checker (think NHS 111 but for pets), or seek preventative care through nurse clinics. And yes - it can all be done from the comfort of home - drastically reducing the need for in-person vet trips.

Role Summary:
Initially a fixed term position (12 month maternity cover): Head of clinical veterinary research, for the period of cover this role will report to the Co-Founder & CMO and guide the clinical veterinary research team to deliver world class veterinary research. Ensuring thorough planning and execution of research projects through to completion and acting as an ambassador for Vet-AI/ Joii with appropriate dissemination of research findings to potential business partners, the veterinary profession and pet-owning public.
Job Responsibilities:
To work with the CMO/ R&D director to:
- Design, plan, project manage, execute and publish clinical research projects.
The 3 main types of research project will include:
- External company product trials using client-owned animals as participants (e.g. veterinary diet feeding programmes) (primary focus).
- Clinical research validating telemedicine (Joii) for use in veterinary practice
- Internal artificial intelligence (AI) tool scientific validation research, in conjunction with external partners where appropriate.
- Liaise with external partners for delivery of clinical research projects
- Ensure research projects are ethically sound and do not compromise animal welfare (including submission of applications to an ethics review board)
- Ensure research projects are GDPR compliant (working with our inhouse Data Protection Officer)
- Review, edit and approve training materials and clinical guides for vets engaged in clinical research projects
- Review and edit literature reviews and manuscripts produced by research team
- Disseminate clinical research findings and promote the work of Vet-AI and Joii
- Represent and be an ambassador for Vet-AI and Joii
- Ensure objectives & key results (OKR’s) for team are achieved and identify & resolve blockers to progress
- Direct management of research staff (including pastoral care & performance management)
Knowledge/Experience required:
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of the UK veterinary profession and market, with a knowledge of clinical application of veterinary medicine to underpin any research projects
- Track record of successful clinical/ biological research projects involving client-owned animals
- Knowledge of ethical and welfare considerations and processes for clinical research
- Track record of research team management
- Track record of scientific writing, publication and dissemination of clinical research
- Track record of public speaking and research presentation
- Ability work independently and lead a team of researchers
- Knowledge of statistical methods required to understand animal studies
- Experience of managing large datasets
Knowledge/Experience desirable but not essential:
- Experience of managing research projects with industry partners
- Knowledge of Canine and feline nutrition
- Evidence of innovation in research
- Understanding of artificial intelligence tool development
- Public engagement experience
- Remote working experience
- Track record of teaching in higher education and understanding of effective methods for delivering and of assessing learning remotely (online)
- Track record of successful grant applications
Essential qualifications:
- Veterinary degree registrable with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)
- PhD in veterinary research or related clinical research discipline
