Salary: Hay 3 (£47,573 - £51,606) per annum

An opportunity has arisen to join Avon Fire & Rescue Service as Head of Transport within our Service Delivery Support Directorate. The Head of Transport will provide strategic leadership and technical expertise within the Fleet Department and wider organisation. This department provide a critical role within the Service ensuring vehicles, appliances and operational equipment are procured, serviced, repaired and maintained to the required standards to enable Avon Fire & Rescue Service to protect the communities we serve.
The role requires leadership skills and the ability to support a culture of excellence, continuous improvement and customer service. You will lead and support the team and ensure appropriate systems and processes are introduced and embedded to deliver effective service delivery through robust performance, data and financial management. You will have a good awareness of appropriate legislation and risk assessments and ensure robust records are maintained to evidence compliance. You must have experience of preparing technical specifications for vehicles and the ability to design or specify transport related engineering solutions to meet operational requirements.
You will be the subject matter expert within the Service and involved in providing technical advice and recommendations to the Senior Leadership Board and other stakeholders. This is a broad and interesting role working alongside the Senior Leadership Team. You will have significant influence and the ability to drive forward change, innovation and improvements.
To be considered for this position you must have experience of preparing technical specifications for vehicles and plant. You must have significant contract, project, performance and financial management experience. You must also have people leadership experience, with the ability to lead and motivate a team effectively including performance/change management, and actively contributing towards a positive workplace culture of continuous improvement.
