Job description

Looking for a new and exciting challenge? We’re actively seeking someone to join us as our Head Of Safeguarding and Learner Welfare, leading from the front, being accountable for the safeguarding architecture across our business pillar.


This is a newly established role, which will be the perfect fit for someone who has a comprehensive background in safeguarding, prevent and welfare services, with the ability to work collaboratively, demonstrating previous experience of working in a similar role with young and vulnerable adults within an education setting.


We need your skills to maintain positive relationships with adults and children and also develop our staff, delivering regular training to support the business ensuring we are well equipped to deal with key issues as they arise.


In return for your dedication, knowledge, and commitment, we offer a competitive salary between £45,000 - £50,000 (dependent on experience) with these great benefits:

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the continued implementation of an electronic safeguarding & welfare platform and maintain the function of this system, and any other safeguarding reporting systems across the group.
  • Lead comprehensive Safeguarding, Prevent and Welfare services working collaboratively with external agencies to keep learners safe and free from harm.
  • Functional oversight of designated safeguarding officers working across the business areas ensuring all retain current skills and relevant continuous professional development.
  • Create and review the mandatory training framework for Safeguarding/ Welfare. Tailored by job role.
  • Ownership of disclosures, ensuring the correct support mechanisms are implemented & the relevant support agencies are engaged;
  • Establish the company approach to Designated Safeguarding officers (DSOs)
  • Manage the roll of Safeguarding/ Welfare policies to all required staff, ensuring practical knowledge of relevant safeguarding legislation that supports practice

Skills and Experience

  • Extensive knowledge and an excellent understanding of safeguarding policies, procedures, and regulations with previous experience of working in a similar role with young and vulnerable adults, within an educational setting;
  • Hold a level 3 qualification or above and have completed Advanced Safeguarding training in the last two years;
  • Able to use a person-centred approach, can show empathy and to demonstrate non-judgmental behaviours;
  • Able to build rapport and trust in individuals to assess whether they are at risk of harm from others or themselves;
  • Knowledge and experience of safeguarding legislation, policy, procedures, and general good practice;
  • The ability to keep up to date with legislation, policy, and guidance developments in safeguarding;
  • Ability to identify examples of poor practice and raise concerns promptly and effectively to the Safeguarding Board and Senior Leadership Team;
  • Experience of creating and/or maintaining robust and GDPR compliant safeguarding records, both written and electronic
