About the role:
Heads of Product are the driving force at Tes, keeping our customers’ needs front and centre of everything we do, and bringing evidence to support the decisions we make. This role will focus on product growth and expansion by maximising our position as leaders in the UK market and expanding internationally. You will experiment with new business models to find ways to maximise value for our products while delighting customers and building hard-to-copy advantage in the market. You will work closely with the CPO as well as key stakeholders across our marketing, operations, sales and engineering teams and form strong relationships with our customers to ensure that the product meets their needs, improves the lives of educators while driving business goals. You will also be part of a community of passionate product leaders dedicated to making a difference in education.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Head of Product at Tes, you are a highly motivated and experienced strategic product decision maker. You drive the vision and development and growth of our product portfolio, and the path to get there. You will be the driving force behind our products, ensuring that they are aligned with our business goals, meet customer needs, and stay ahead of the competition and these are the key areas that matter:

  • Customer-focused: Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the market, customer needs, and competitive landscape to identify new product opportunities and drive product innovation, and in this way enabling Tes to thrive. This only comes from knowing customers and the market in depth.
  • Product Strategy: Develop and communicate the product vision, strategy and roadmap to cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Ensure that the product vision aligns with the company's overall strategy and goals.
  • Market Research: Conduct market research to understand customer needs and market trends. Use this information to identify new product opportunities and create a strong product vision and strategy.
  • Requirements Gathering: Work closely with key stakeholders and customers as well as product managers to identify high-value product opportunities to explore, build and deliver.
  • Business case realisation: Develop business cases and financial models to justify investments in new products and product enhancements.
  • Product Design: Ensure teams adopt UX and design best practices and principles to create world class user experiences that delight users which meet customer needs.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, sales teams, and executives. Communicate the product strategy, vision, and roadmap plans to these stakeholders.
  • Product Positioning & Launch: Collaborate with product operations, sales and marketing teams to develop product positioning, messaging, and go-to-market strategies
  • Product Evangelist: Act as the product expert and evangelist, providing training and support to product owners, teams and external stakeholders to build credibility
  • People Management: Manage a team of product managers, providing guidance and mentorship to help them achieve their goals and advance in their careers
What will you need to succeed?

We’re looking for someone with demonstrable experience as a Product Manager. You’ll be:

  • A proven strategic product leader with 8+ years of experience in product management, with a proven track record of delivering successful products.
  • Able to demonstrate strong leadership skills and experience managing other product managers and cross-functional teams.
  • An excellent communicator and collaborator – to help deliver the vision and motivate the teams, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Data and research focused, with the ability to use data to drive product decisions and measure success
  • Able to create a deep understanding of customer needs and market trends
  • Able to make decisions quickly and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Able to adopt a commercial-mindset and approach to maximise the value of our products and help achieve commercial goals and business objectives
  • Able to demonstrate strong business acumen and ability to think strategically and execute tactically
  • Passionate for building products that solve customer problems and deliver value
  • Experienced with agile methodologies and product development processes
  • Experienced with a subscription-based product offering (advantage)
  • Certified as in some form of agile product management (advantage)
  • Experienced in the education sector (advantage)
