Head of Media Relations (General Insurance) – from £100,000 for national locations / from £120,000 for London
Here at Aviva, we are excited to announce we are looking for a seasoned, senior Communications professional – with expertise in Media Relations, Consumer PR and/or broader Corporate Communications – to undertake a Head of Media Relations role, focused on the General Insurance (GI) side of our business. Prior exposure to working in this sector, or the wider financial services sector, would be highly beneficial.
A bit about the job:
You will lead a team of Media Relations professionals to develop and deliver a first-class Media Relations plan to support Aviva’s GI business, as well as be aligned to the overall Brand & Corporate Affairs strategy, Aviva’s overall corporate priorities and our GI business objectives. This encompasses proactive consumer PR activity to promote our brand, as well as reactive issues management and media handling to help protect the business. This team also work closely with other areas of the function including Public Policy, Employee Communications, Social/Digital Media and Financial Media – to ensure an integrated communications approach – therefore exercising exceptional interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills will be an instrumental part of the role too.
Aviva introduced “smart-working” in 2020 and encourage flexible working; however, the successful post-holder will need to be based a commutable distance from either our London, York, Bristol or Norwich offices (expectation is 3 days per week in the office).
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
- Media Relations Expertise: You must be a senior leader, with a strong level of media relations experience i.e., a strong understanding of how national and trade media work, how to build effective relationships with journalists, the ability to craft news, features and editorial content, manage incoming media enquiries and reprioritise a book of work accordingly
- Sector experience: Prior knowledge of working for large, corporate brand(s) (or an agency background, working with corporate clients), ideally within Financial Services
- Team Leadership: the ability to motivate and drive a team in line with defined objectives, always ensuring clear prioritisation of activity
- Stakeholder Management: the ability to work with, and advise, senior stakeholders across the business, including at C-suite level
- Issues and Crisis Management: knowledge and understanding of what constitutes a reputational risk for the business and experience in helping to mitigate and manage issues and crises
What you’ll get for this role:
- Annual salary from £100,000 - £120,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
- Bonus opportunity of 25% of annual salary (actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s)
