Key relationships: Finance Director (fixed term to end July 23), Director of Programme and Engagement, Development Director, Head of Commercial, COO (currently in recruitment)
Line reports: Marketing and Audiences Manager, Membership and Admissions Manager
Hours per week: 0.6 post. Normally 22.5 hours per week. However, there will be times when you will work reasonable hours in excess of 22.5 hours per week without direct recompense or time off in lieu.

There are limited public transport links with Compton Verney. We are open to flexible working approaches.

With six permanent collections (Naples, Northern European Art 1450-1650, British Portraits, Chinese, British Folk Art & The Marx-Lambert Collection) and a schedule of thought provoking contemporary and historic changing exhibitions and events, we are an accredited museum, and a registered charity.
Compton Verney seeks to continue to increase visitor numbers, grow membership and improve the visitor experience. We have an extensive commercial offer part of which is excellent catering and retail, aiming to maximise income to the charity whilst also delivering the organisation’s purpose.

Job description
The Head of Marketing and Admissions is a new Senior Management post to lead and inspire the organisation to meet its ambitious future visitor targets using a data led and audience first focus to drive growth. You will contribute towards the 2024 anniversary year to capitalise on the significant opportunity of this year to enable sustainability.
You will work with the Art, Learning and Commercial teams to help embed an audience focused approach across the public programme, collaborating with the Development team which has responsibility for advocacy and stakeholders. You will also work with Development on a joined-up approach to membership to encourage people up the giving ladder. You will also have close working relationships with external suppliers including managing freelance press representation.
The Head of Marketing and Admissions works to and with the Executive team comprising CEO, Directors of Finance, Programme and Engagement and Development.
Specific Duties:
Strategy and Leadership
- Contribution to the development and monitoring of the business plan and organisational strategy to bring audience focused thinking and data.
- Developing and overseeing implementation of marketing and audience development strategies that will support the organisation in meeting its vision, mission and business plan working closely with the Marketing and Audiences Manager
- Using existing research and, where appropriate, commissioning new research to ensure that the company understands its existing and potential audiences and develops appropriate strategies to grow those audiences.
- Working with the Membership and Admissions Manager to develop and manage pricing and retention policies which will enable the company to maximise its income whilst retaining its commitment to accessibility
- Monitoring attendance and earned revenue compared to budget and taking necessary action, both tactic and longer-term strategic, to ensure goals are met.
- Developing appropriate networks and relationships with organisations and individuals at a local, regional and national level, working closely with the Development team.
- Managing the visual identity and brand, ensuring awareness and amplification of its mission, impact and importance in the local and national cultural landscape.
Communications
- Work with the Marketing and Audiences Manager to devise effective and stimulating marketing and audience development campaigns that support key initiatives, programming strands and maximise income generation.
- Developing messaging and the Compton Verney voice and profile
- Supporting the redevelopment of the website and ongoing improvements.
- Ensuring excellent quality and appropriate production of print, website, ecomms and all publications produced by the organisation
- Ensuring excellent relations with Press and other media managing the freelance press representative (s) and developing new communication strategies.
- Working with the relevant teams to develop group and schools sales strategies
- Leading and reviewing a social media strategy that is both creative in the use of digital technology and integrated with the marketing and audience development strategy
- Developing the website to ensure it is easy to use, content rich and audience focused, maximising sales.
Management and Leadership
- Manage, support and develop the team including through regular meetings and annual PDRs
- · Attend and presenting to Board and executive team meetings as required

- · Work within the Company’ established policies and practices
Administration and Finance
- To oversee annual budgets for the department
- Control budgets, including when working with external contractors, maintaining adequate records, and ensuring proper timely communication of financial information
- To be responsible for effective administrative and financial management systems, to ensure record keeping and business continuity
Other Duties
- To engage in national and regional networking meetings with the cultural and business sectors.
- To keep abreast of best practice.
- The above accountabilities are not exhaustive and may vary without changing the character of the job or level of responsibility. The post holder must be flexible to ensure that the operational needs of the Company are met. This includes undertaking duties of a similar nature and responsibility as and when required.
Person specification
Essential:
· At least 3 years’ experience at management level in marketing, communications or admissions.
· Experience of brand management
· Experience of digital marketing
· Experience of working in or with a membership organisation
· Excellent copywriting, editing and proofing skills
· Experience of using audience segmentation
· Sales-driven approach – including working to and monitoring targets and acting on underperformance when needed.
· A commitment to inclusion.

Chief Operating Officer
THE ROLE:
Responsible to the CEO for the efficient and effective running of all operations. Forms a key part of the executive team responsible for leading Compton Verney.
STRATEGY AND LEADERSHIP:
- Design, plan and implement business strategies, plans and procedures
- Design and deliver data-led innovation and transformation, achieving efficiencies and maximising the potential of our operations.
- Work with the Head of Finance to ensure effective financial leadership and support across the charity and its commercial operations.
- Work collaboratively with the CEO, the Board of Trustees, the Finance and Audit Committee and the commercial Board (CVP) through a cycle of regular Board meetings and reporting.
- Be the lead executive for the Finance and Audit Committee
- Analyse and interpret data and metrics, creating understandable information so that quality decisions and actions can be taken.
- Monitor and evaluate information, implementing improvements as necessary.
- Foster effective teamwork and culture, promoting the company’s values, within and between all teams, partners and contracted out organisations.
OPERATIONS:
- Ensure that the operation of the organisation meets the expectations of its audiences, Trustees and funders.
- Work with the team to create annual operating plans, which incorporate commercial activity, the public programme, capital activity and special projects that support the strategic direction of the organisation.
- Provide oversight to operations, managing the Visitor Experience Manager and supporting their teams
- Lead the drafting of policies for the approval of the Board and prepare procedures for their implementation; review existing policies on an annual basis and recommend changes to the Board.
- Oversee the efficient and effective operation of the organisation in line with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure appropriate processes are in place to enable timely submission of grant applications and progress reports for funders working closely with the Development Director,
- Leadership of IT and facilities strategies with the Facilities and Operations Manager.
- Lead a positive Health and Safety culture with appropriate policies meeting legislative requirements and reporting to the Board of Trustees.
- Ensure compliance with Charity Commission, Companies House, and other relevant legislation at all times, ensuring clear charitable accountability, reporting, lodging information and changes to both the Charity Commission and to Companies House as required.
- Oversee the programme of Capital and building maintenance activity, reporting to the Trustee-led capital group.
COMMERCIAL:
· Drive a dynamic, effective commercial programme that delivers significant income to CVHC
· Provide executive level leadership for the Commercial team
· Executive lead for Compton Verney Publications (Commercial board)
· Oversight of the relationship with the external catering contractors, ensuring successful delivery of the KPIs
· Work closely with the team to make sure the commercial programme is mission driven
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:
· Work with the People Manager to determine staffing requirements so that the organisation can deliver its strategic and operational plans.
· Establish a positive, healthy, and safe work environment with the executive team in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations.
· Ensure the recruitment and selection process brings in new staff that have the right technical and personal abilities and values to help the organisation continue to make change in alignment with its values, particularly thinking about equality, diversity, access and inclusion.
· Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices
· Coach and mentor staff as appropriate to improve performance and encourage coaching and mentoring generally.
· Lead, manage, develop and enable all line reports, provide regular feedback opportunities, probationary reviews and performance development reviews.
· Lead employees by example and be a motivator for other employees.
Risk Management:
· Work with the CEO, executive team and heads of department to identify and evaluate the risks to the organisation's people, property, finances, goodwill, and image and implement measures to control risk.
· Ensure that the Board and the organisation carries appropriate and adequate insurance coverage.
· Ensure that the Board and the executive understand the terms, conditions, and limitations of the insurance coverage.
· Ensure up to date legal compliance for the company.
· Ensuring CVHC and its subsidiary companies and charities collect, hold, use and delete data in accordance with Data Protection Act; maintaining the necessary registration and liaison with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
· Previous working experience as COO or similar senior role for 3 years
· In-depth knowledge of different business functions such as Commercial, HR, Finance etc.
· Good knowledge of data analysis and KPIs
· Familiarity with IT/business infrastructure
· Outstanding organisational skills
· Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
· Great communication and presentation skills
· Problem-solving mindset
· Experience of working with Boards or similar external monitoring bodies
