Job Introduction

If you possess first rate experience of bringing audience insights to life to create compelling and persuasive arguments, we’d like to hear from you.

We are looking for an audience insights expert to help drive the commercial success of our advertising sales business.

Reporting to the Vice President Marketing and Insight EMEA, the Head of Insight is responsible for supporting BBC Studios’ EMEA advertising sales through the provision of powerful business insights. Overseeing the team’s response to all EMEA Ad Sales requests, the Head of Insight will be responsible for running large, complex research projects independently, analysing and getting the most out of our existing data sources by drawing together insights from multiple sources to tell a bigger audience story.

Main Responsibilities
  • To be an insight expert, using a wide range of insights and data tools to create compelling business arguments, that in turn drive commercial success for advertising sales. You’ll be business facing, presenting to senior clients in all phases of the sales process, bringing sales narratives to life with data and insight.
  • To devise and deliver powerful and actionable thought leadership research that drives BBC Studios’ profile in the advertising industry and supports commercial objectives.
  • You’ll manage a team of 2 research managers and 1 research executive including KPIs, performance and training. You will oversee the team’s response to all EMEA Ad Sales requests with the provision of insight and data for RFP’s, pitches and briefs. In addition the Head of Insight will oversee and provide evaluation of all post campaign effectiveness research, presenting findings in a compelling way and telling the story behind the data.
  • Working closely with analytics and ad sales operations, take the lead on delivering a holistic approach to data and insights through the use of the BBC’s DMP (Permutve) and analytics tool (ATI).
  • You’ll keep informed of competitor strategy and performance and use analytical frameworks and tools to interpret and translate the results for senior managers and the wider marketing and sales teams. You will also keep informed of developments in the field of audience research, maintaining and enhancing professional media contacts.
  • Introduce creative research techniques which deliver rich and deep insights into audiences and critically evaluate research findings and challenge perceptions on audience attitudes and behaviour.
Are you the right candidate?
  • The right candidate will either already hold a Head of level role or be ready to step up to the next level of their career.
  • You’ll possess substantial experience of insights and data in the international media industry, ideally in a publishing environment. You will have experience of working closely with ad sales marketing teams to build powerful, compelling and effective sales narratives.
  • You’ll possess significant experience of bringing audience insights, data analytics and advertising tech tools such as DMPs together to deliver an agnostic approach to audience insights, and will have demonstrable experience in successfully managing stakeholder relationships at a senior level, especially with editorial, product and sales teams.
  • Experience in a leadership role and proven track record in effective people management is essential. You’ll have demonstrable experience of having successfully led, motivated and developed a team of insights professionals
  • You’ll be a confident presenter – you can present audience analysis in a compelling way, and in a manner that engages commercial and editorial stakeholders. You can interpret data and recommend action on a variety of analyses.
  • You’ll be passionate – you have a keen interest in news and the international media industry more widely.
  • The right candidate will be a strong communicator and will have an analytical mind. You have a strong understanding of both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, with an ability to devise new and creative ways of better exploiting research data.
