This is an exciting role for the successful candidate to work in our nationally renowned Idea Stores Learning Service. From the City Fringe, through to the heart of the East End to the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf, Tower Hamlets is a uniquely vibrant, diverse and contrasting part of the capital – a melting pot of creativity, enterprise and cultural life that brings the best of London together in one place. We have recently relocated our Headquarters to the heart of our communities in Whitechapel conveniently located opposite the underground station with good links including Cross Rail.
The Head of Idea Stores Learning is a crucial role, not only is it a unique opportunity for the right person to lead, shape and manage the delivery of our Idea Store Learning Service, but to further improve and enhance it. The recent OFSTED inspection stated, ‘Tower Hamlets Idea Store Learning continues to be a good provider’. We are now on our way developing an action plan for excellence. We want a borough where everyone feels valued and included, and we want a council that collaborates to deliver excellence for our residents and learners.
The Head of Idea Store Learning will provide strategic and operational leadership for lifelong learning in London Borough of Tower Hamlets Council. They will manage the Council’s Idea Store Learning service, which provides accredited and non-accredited courses supporting improvements in English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), English, mathematics and wide range of community learning courses such as digital skills, creative and performing arts, languages, health and fitness, well-being and include courses for learners with special educational needs and/or disabilities. The post will support the development of the Council’s approach to lifelong learning more widely and lead efforts to improve the clarity of lifelong learning and progression pathways across the borough for residents. The role involves working closely with our partners from different sectors and ensuring our learners can have access to a wide range of learning opportunities wherever possible. The councils Corporate Plan and Priorities clearly set out the Mayor's vision for the council and importance of the Idea Stores Library and Learning Service.
