As Head of Human Rights you will be accountable for ensuring we champion human rights and drive lasting change across our Food, General Merchandise and GNFR supply chains. You’ll work cross divisionally and functionally collaborating with a wide set of internal and external stakeholders to drive action and better outcomes for all. As a Head of Human Rights you’ll:

  • Lead forward progress against our Human Rights strategy and 5 key commitments and evolving issues particularly focusing on gender equality, sustainable livelihoods, forced labour and worker representation
  • Ensure effective strategy recommendations, business cases and implementation plans are developed to deliver against our Human Rights strategy.
  • Ensure robust due diligence on human rights risks and remediation of adverse impacts are undertaken aligned with the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights.
  • Determine and coordinate our corporate positioning on key issues and media queries working across the brands, channels and industry groups.
  • Work in partnership with the Head of Environmental Sustainability and wider teams to develop and implement our environmental and social sourcing strategy.
  • Be accountable for ensuring all external reporting and disclosure obligations are met and that we tell the story of our work effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Develop appropriate, relevant training and tools for the job for suppliers and colleagues.
  • Lead and oversee the partnership, strategy and implementation of existing and new collaborations, including but not limited to our International development programme with Comic Relief and our new strategic partnership with Nottingham Human Rights Lab.
  • Identify, develop and manage engagement with relevant external stakeholders, working collaboratively on issues to enable greater progress through collaboration.
  • Continuously inform and improve our strategy and business understanding of Human Rights by conducting horizon scanning on trends, regulation and policy, collect insights from other companies, SMEs & government and staying up to date with latest developments.

Our CR&S Team would love to see:

  • Significant experience in Human Rights, sustainable sourcing and development in the UK or globally and in a commercial context
  • Proven experience of developing and delivering strategically
  • Senior stakeholder management with effective influencing
  • Ability to anticipate risks and opportunities, responding to escalations with a high level of resilience
  • An excellent leader who can build happy, high performing, teams and creates a positive impact with internal, own team and external audiences.
  • Broad expertise of human rights in Food and/or General Merchandise businesses
  • Experience in the management of human rights, economic and social risks in supply chains
  • In depth knowledge of relevant networks and stakeholders in the field of sustainability and experience in representing an organisation at high-level meetings
