UCL’s Finance division, headed by the Chief Financial Officer, is part of the University’s Professional Services function and is divided into three separate directorates: Finance Services, Financial Planning & Analysis and Finance Business Partnering.
The job of Head of Finance Business Partnering is a senior post in the Business Partner team, which provides strategically focused support to leadership teams across UCL. The team forges strong relationships with stakeholders to enable expert advice, critical challenge and timely decision support to enable the best financial performance. The team is responsible for building trusted relationships and providing professional financial advice to UCL stakeholders across four distinct business areas: Life and Medical Sciences; Bartlett, Engineering and Maths & Physical Sciences; Arts & Humanities, Social & Historical Sciences, Laws and the Institute of Education; and Professional Services & Vice Provost/President Offices.
This role comes with a highly competitive salary of £80-98,000 per annum, plus excellent benefits (more below on that.)
About the role
In this job you'll act as head of Finance Business Partnering for our Life and Medical Sciences (LMS) team, leading a team of Finance Business Partners and holding a leadership position within the finance business partnering team. You'll build trusted working relationships with stakeholders including the Dean, Faculty Manager, and Heads of Department.
You'll use your leadership and business partnering skills to ensure Finance is seen as a fundamentally important business partner whose input is required on all strategically important decisions. It's a high profile and vital job which will provide wide ranging support on strategic and financial matters.
As well as being adept at applying your own expertise, you'll need to be able to draw on advice from finance experts to support complex or large projects, to ensure the technical finance support is focused on the appropriate area.
About you
To do this job you'll need to be a fully qualified accountant, educated to degree level or with equivalent experience. You'll have experience of working in a Business Partnering role within a complex organisation, with demonstrable negotiation, relationship building, and conflict resolution skills.
You'll have experience of delivering financial analysis and producing reports to non-finance staff, demonstrating measurable outcomes. As a leader you'll have a track record of developing and empowering individuals to realise their potential, leading teams through change, and embedding a culture of development and improvement. As a Business partner you'll have experience of influencing senior stakeholders and challenging to uphold financial management standards.
