About the Role


The Head of Finance role will entail building out a great finance function, using the latest tools, creating efficient processes, innovating and doing things differently, experiencing first hand all that is required to support a scale up of a tech VC backed business. Ramp is a global business with customers in different continents billed in different currencies and also staff in different countries.


The Head of Finance will be responsible for the management of all accounting and tax matters for the Group and provide timely management information on financial KPIs., reporting into COO/Co-founder. This includes the development of financial internal controls, policies and procedures. In conjunction with the Founders, you will also support the preparation of budgets.

Success in your role, in a years time, will see you managing all things finance related, providing strategic insight to the business as part of the senior leadership team and interacting with customers/suppliers/investors/partners


Ideally, you understand or have experienced the problem we are solving and also have a burning desire to fix this for the world at large. Ability to engage with like minded CFOs at client companies on these pain points.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Developing the financial reporting framework in a standalone finance function.
  • Presenting the financial position and performance of the group to the management team, advising on the financial implications of business activities.
  • Supporting the continued expansion plans of the business.
  • Evaluating and appraising investments and financial objectives.
  • Implementing and enhancing financial and accounting systems, processes, tools and control systems.
  • Managing the regulatory and statutory financial reporting of the Company ensuring all external audits and other regulatory requirements are completed on time.
  • In conjunction with the Founders, preparing financial forecasting, budgets and cash flow projections, inclusive of challenging and monitoring variances to actual.
  • Identifying and escalating risk factors for the financial position and performance of the Company.
  • Ensuring that effective internal controls are in place and ensuring compliance with GAAP and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with senior executives, to identify their needs and to provide them with appropriate financial information and support.
  • Sourcing and maintaining strong banking relationships as well as strong relationships with other appropriate business partners and service providers.
  • Monitoring and reviewing the quality of all outsourced work.
  • Acting as a senior signatory across the Group’s bank accounts.
  • Supporting fundraising activities and proposals.
  • Serving as a key point of contact for external auditors and managing the preparation and support of all external audits.
  • Identifying and procuring tax advice where required, presenting and implementing recommendations.
  • Overseeing the preparation and timely filing of all Corporate Income Tax, VAT and Employment related tax returns.
  • Recruiting and developing a Finance team as required by the business, including managing work allocation, systems training, performance evaluations, and the building of an effective and efficient team dynamic.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience


  • Qualified Chartered Accountant with significant relevant experience, ideally gained in both a Blue Chip and VC backed B2B SaaS start-up environment
  • Financial foresight, accounting and financial competence
  • Perspective on Risk, Integrity and Ethical Standards
  • Ability to influence the board with confident presentation
  • Solid analytical and decision-making skills
  • Ability to understand both business and financial issues
  • Adapt to working with a distributed team in Cape Town and London
  • Good grasp and quick learner of the latest cloud tools
  • Comfortable in a fast paced dynamic startup environment
