Why Join Hereford?
Embedding HEINEKEN Herefordshire as the Global Home of Cider is a challenge we all embrace. Our historic Herefordshire heartland is home to the world’s largest Cider production site, our cider mill at Ledbury and more than 5,000 acres of orchards. We also partner with local growers as we use more than 20% of all apples grown in the UK to make our celebrated cider brands. From Strongbow and Bulmers to Old Mout, a spirit of innovation inspires our craft - and with a string of new styles and flavours to enjoy including our new brand Inchs and our summer favourite Strongbow Rosé, our future is one you’ll want to be part of.

What are we looking for?
Our Head of Engineering is a pivotal role for both our Cider Production and Cider Mill, as we continue to raise the bar to meet global HEINEKEN standards where TPM (Total Productive Management) and continuous improvement are fundamental. This fantastic and varied role reports directly to the Site Director as part of the site Leadership Team and has responsibility to provide operational leadership across the utilities team as well as providing Engineering leadership across the entire site.

We expect supportive leadership over control, and you will use your coaching and mentoring experience to create innovative ways to support your team to thrive and work more productively and effectively.

This role will focus on continuous improvement without compromising quality in three key target areas; safety and compliance, preventative maintenance and influencing loss reduction through cross function teams and deploying a strategy that encourages ownership across engineering and operations.

To put it simply we are looking for an experienced leader with recognised qualifications, however, what is more, important to us is your operational leadership and people management skills and experience with similar complexity and size.

On top of being passionate about your job and demonstrating your can-do attitude and fine problem solving skills, you’ll ideally have the following:

  • Positive and safety-focused outlook with a continuous improvement mindset (e.g. Lean, ManEx, TPM, Six Sigma)
  • Previous experience managing a large budget
  • Proven servant leadership skills with examples of developing and coaching a high performing team
  • Experience in leading change programmes demonstrating technical and management abilities

Life at HEINEKEN
We’re building a future that embraces innovation, sustainability, diversity and, of course, the opportunity for our 2,400 UK colleagues to make the most of their careers.

We encourage all our colleagues to grow and reach their full potential. We’re also well-aware that successful careers seldom run in a straight line, so if you’re in search of fresh opportunities (including global or cross-functional moves), mentoring or simply want to pick up a new skill, you’ll have access to all the support you need.

Caring for people & the planet is one of our core values and we understand that each of our colleagues’ needs and circumstances are different. This is why we have a smarter working policy in place which includes access to hybrid working, flexible start and finish times and condensed hours, to name a few.

Our colleagues love life at HEINEKEN, and we’re confident you’ll feel the same way – but don’t take our word for it. Search the #LifeAtHEINEKENUK hashtag on LinkedIn to hear from our colleagues about what makes HEINEKEN such a special business to be a part of.

The application
If you like what you’ve read and want to explore this opportunity further, please apply before the closing date listed at the top of the advert.

Please note, we may close vacancies early where we receive significant numbers of applications, so don’t delay!

If you need any adjustments made to support your application, for example if you require information in different formats, or if you have any accessibility issues, then we’re more than happy to review our processes – please feel free to get in touch with us as [email protected].

In all likelihood the ideal candidate for this role won’t meet every single requirement in this advert, in fact we all need the opportunity to grow and develop in role. We understand some applicants are less likely to apply to jobs unless they feel they meet every single qualification. The team at HEINEKEN would encourage you to submit an application if the advert has piqued your interest rather than ruling yourself out based on any self-limiting beliefs. You never know, you may be exactly what we’re looking for!
