Greater Manchester Police is one of the largest police forces in the UK and is responsible for keeping its diverse population of almost 3 million safe, spread over more than 1,200 sq. km. Manchester in particular has been billed as the most diverse city in Europe with its population speaking at least 200 different languages, leading to the city being named as Britain’s “City of languages”.

GMP are committed to ensure that the make-up of our workforce is reflective of the communities we serve and we recognise that having a diverse workforce makes us more approachable and relevant to the public.

The People and Development Branch plays a critical role in ensuring GMP has a safe, supported, and professionally trained workforce. The teams provide access to learning and training that equips everyone at GMP with the skills and knowledge to keep people safe; fight, prevent, and reduce crime; and care for victims.

Currently, there is an exciting opportunity to join GMP for up to 12 months as the temporary Unit Head over the Dog and Driver Training Unit. This is a busy and exciting time for Police Driver Training, with the upcoming changes to the College of Policing driver training licensing requirements and we require a forward thinking, innovative and high performing candidate to lead the Unit through these changes.

A strong leader, you will have a background in working as an instructor in a Police dog and/or driving school, having worked as a trained/qualified instructor and developed/conducted a range of training courses for various levels of staff. An understanding of the new CoP Police Driver Training licensing requirements and upcoming processes will also be hugely beneficial.
