Job description

Your mission

Wonderbly is on a journey to evolve from being the world’s leading publisher of personalised books for children, to becoming the world’s leading publisher and bookseller of books given as gifts. Starting with the proposition of a meaningfully personalised book for every age, occasion and relationship, we have embarked on an exciting diversification of our products, launching new categories of never before seen personalised books for grownup audiences. We strongly believe that developing a deeper data and customer-led culture is an integral and fundamental part of this journey.

In recent months we have been interrogating our customer data and exploring different ways to segment our customers. We're keen to increase the level of sophistication of our relationship with data - collection as well as analysis. We wish to utilise customer segmentation, on site journeys/behaviours and transactional data in order to provide a great and frictionless experience for both new and returning customers

To get there we're now hiring for a senior data and analytics leader. We’re looking for an exceptional Head of Data and insights to support Wonderbly in elevating its data maturity across a variety of customers touch points and business domains. Data & Analytics play an essential role at Wonderbly as we strive for relevant insights guiding key decisions in product development, customer experience, marketing budget allocation & customer retention. As such, in your day-to-day you’ll focus on understanding strategic data needs of the business and building the appropriate team & data and analytics infrastructure to satisfy these needs sustainably.

In this role you will:

  • Help us further evolve our data-driven culture, transforming our data strategy, architecture and analytics.

  • Gain a deep understanding of customer value creation at Wonderbly based on our data led and attitudinal segmentations

  • Recognise the biggest opportunities, empower marketing, product and publishing departments, ensuring decisions are data-driven across the organisation

  • Take ownership of Wonderbly’s transition towards a customer-led organisation by ensuring proper data collection, segmentation analysis, experimentation & churn / LTV prediction

  • Lead a competent and empowered data team, while collaborating closely with Product, Technology, Marketing, etc. to build an intuitive and impactful setup.

  • We already have a marketing analyst, a product analyst and a data engineer embedded in their prospective teams - we’re keen to move to a centralised team meaning these three for a start will report to you

  • Challenge, evolve and optimise the current data infrastructure along business needs

  • Nurture a culture of experimentation to drive qualitative & quantitative insights

A little bit about you

Hopefully you'll be/have some or all of the following:

  • A tenacious, strategic business analyst with many years of relevant experience in data and analytics in consumer businesses (ecommerce is a huge plus!)

  • Solid experience in leading data teams

  • You excel in proactive insight discovery and aligning different views on definitions & approaches

  • A great manager that loves to be hands on doing and analysing

  • Ability to work effectively with others across the organisation

  • Experience with relevant Modern Data Stack tooling

  • You challenge the status quo everyday and strive to improve our products and processes

  • Love for our category and brand - we want someone that loves books and creating personal, meaningful connections, and who connects deeply with our internal company values of courage, kindness and curiosity

About us

Oh hi! We’re delighted that you’re interested in working with Wonderbly, the UK Children’s Publisher of the Year 2021. Below you’ll find out all about us, our mission and values, and the roles we have open right now.

Wonderbly is the world’s leading personalised publishing company. We conceive, design, promote, sell, and make wonderful books for wonderful customers all over the world.

Our mission is to make people feel extraordinarily special, and bring them closer to the people they love, through the power of personalised stories. So far we’ve shipped over 7 million books to over 150 countries. We’ve done this in just eight years, and we’re just getting started.

Getting personalised books to all those millions of customers requires a multidisciplinary team. Our wonderful people have experience across editorial design, research, production, software engineering, marketing, e-commerce, data analysis, print-on-demand manufacturing, shipping… the list goes on.

This means that Wonderbly is a collaborative and creative place to work, with lots of opportunities for growth and development across a broad range of skills.

We’re based in London, where we have a gorgeous, light-filled studio for working together. But like many digital-first companies, we have a hybrid operating model, with many colleagues working from home and further afoot much of the time.

Our values

Wonderbly’s values were born from the three qualities at the heart of ‘Lost My Name’ - our original and best-selling personalised children’s book. These values are Courage, Curiosity and Kindness. And although they naturally have a child-friendly ring to them, these are deeply human values that we believe everyone should live by.

Courage means taking calculated risks and trying things that no one else would. It means setting audacious goals, seeing them through, and being willing to be wrong.

Curiosity means investing in learning, never losing sight of the ‘WHY’. Curiosity allows us to ask silly questions, explore our blind spots, and dip into other disciplines for inspiration.

Kindness is at the heart of our culture: it’s no coincidence that deep friendships form here every day. Kindness means making space for one another, inclusivity as standard, and clear, direct communication. It does not mean “good vibes only”: the kindest conversations are often the hardest.

Equal opportunities employer

Our team is committed to providing equal opportunities for employment regardless of race, religion or belief, ethnic origin, disability, family structure, socio-economic status, age, nationality or citizenship, marital, domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity or any other basis (it's the law, but it's also just the right thing to do).

If you have a disability, caring duties, or any other additional needs that require consideration, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate them during the application process.
