Portsmouth City Council are seeking a Head of Community Safety, which will become vacant during the Summer of 2023. Portsmouth is a modern city transforming to meet the needs of the 21 st Century and an exciting place to live and work, and the local authority is at its heart. Being one of the most densely populated parts of the country outside of London, community safety is a prominent issue for the 200,000+ residents who live here.
The Housing, Neighbourhoods and Building Services Directorate is delivering a range of customer facing services, including waste management, building ma intenance and housing services.
The Head of Community Safety leads a variety of teams including community wardens, environmental enforcement, CCTV, and dog kennels to 'help keep the City safe, clean and tidy and provide help and advice when needed' and chairs a number of partnership meetings to resolve issues.
This is an interesting time in Community Safety as it is now even more important for partners to collaborate to make the most of the resources available. Our service is designed and managed with our customers at the heart of our thinking, we strive to resolve and reduce problems and where we cannot we look to actions that can be taken to address a problem.
This post will lead a well-established and substantial team and will be the lead officer for Community Safety issues. Community Safety is part of the Neighbourhoods team which also includes waste and estate services.
Candidates will have an excellent understanding of relevant legislation such as:
- Anti-social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014
- Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022
- Environmental Protection Act 1990 and an awareness of the Environment Act 2021
- Data Protection Act 2018
- S68 of Clean Neighbourhood and Environment Act 2005
- Awareness of Prevent and Protect agendas
We are looking for an experienced senior manager with a proven track record of developing both new and highly skilled experienced staff.
