Head of Business Intelligence and Analytics – Senior Manager


Background

The Chief Data Office at KPMG UK is responsible for the enterprise data strategy, which includes analytics and engineering, architecture, governance and information governance. We report into the Chief Digital Officer and sit within our wider technology function

Role description

We are looking for a Head of Business Intelligence and Analytics who is capable of building and leading an analytics and engineering department for the UK firm. We have already built a successful data platform, and have built some strategic analytics applications for key internal stakeholders, and now we are looking to create a best-practice approach to analytics and BI across the UK firm. This is a significant opportunity for someone to design and implement an approach, and if successful, significantly grow the internal analytics capability for KPMG in the UK.

This is a new role, with a lot of opportunity to be creative, build and scale for the future and involves managing a team of Data Architects, Data Engineers and Data Scientists

We are looking for someone who is comfortable running teams with multiple stakeholders who often have competing priorities and experience with building big data products and services for internal business and customers.


Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will be to

  • Build and drive the business intelligence and analytics strategy, and direction as part of the chief data office leadership team
  • Identify data and analytics technology solutions that provide a competitive advantage for KPMG and ensure the company meets its corporate objectives.
  • Designing, building, and implementing successful data solutions through the effective use of business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI).
  • Interface with the Executive Leadership Team and other senior leadership to identify innovative uses of data.
  • Guide the day-to-day activities of a geographically distributed data engineering and analytics team, including hiring world class talent, reviewing work and setting goals.
  • Extract and analyse complex data sets to generate meaningful and actionable insight for our stakeholders.
  • Participate in key technical and design discussions with technical leads as a hands-on manager.
  • Partner with other practice leads, architects, delivery managers to oversee execution by your team with high levels of agility and quality.
  • Collaborate with technology and data architects to create highly functioning processes and build a high-output, high-performing, business-savvy, customer-centric data engineering organisation that is continually improving its efficiency, effectiveness and value to the business.


Technical Skills:

  • SQL
  • Excel
  • Python and R (highly desirable)
  • Other analytical tools, Spark or similar (highly desirable)
  • Knowledge of data warehousing, databases, and optimisation tools (critical)
  • Experience with other programming languages and technologies is advantageous
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodology.

  • An excellent coach, mentor, and developer of both managers and engineers.
  • Deep public cloud experience
  • Expert in leading teams that implement both streaming and batch data transport technologies.
  • Deep expertise in Cloud Data Warehouse technology and/or managing an enterprise data lake.
  • Ability to simplify complex technical concepts into easily understood business language to
  • facilitate, communicate, and engage with executives and business stakeholders.
  • Exhibit superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Very comfortable with ambiguity and enjoys creating structure out of chaos.
