Head of Business Change London, England

Penguin Books Limited
Full Time London, England 80000 - 90000 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

We’re looking for a Head of Business Change to join our Strategic Projects team on a permanent basis. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to provide leadership across Business Change, Training and Project Communications, and direct high profile transformational programmes across Penguin Random House.

Our Strategic Projects team is a key part of Penguin Random House Operations, helping the organisation to achieve transformational change, delivering initiatives based on our strategic priorities, and supporting essential replacements to core processes and systems as they become end-of-life. Strategic Projects support changes from initial conversations and prioritisations through to implementation, engaging with departments to help changes take place and embed successfully.

As our new Head of Business Change, you’ll provide leadership across 3 specialist teams: Business Change, Technology Training and Communications, and report into our Programme Portfolio Director. Your key stakeholders are predominantly based within our Technology, Finance, Operations, HR and Brand teams.

Some of your core responsibilities will include:

  • Successfully delivering Business Change within large, complex, transformational programmes of work, for the full lifecycle of change deliverables and interventions.

  • Being accountable for all Business Change workstreams across Change, Training and Communication for the range of projects and programmes within our Delivery Roadmap.

  • Driving the development and implementation of change, training, and communications strategies and delivery plans. Doing so by working with business leaders and our programme teams to identify new needs and foster the adoption of new ways of working.

  • Leading the team, providing direction and guidance in setting priorities and ensuring alignment of the deliverables across the programme.

  • Engaging senior business stakeholders to ensure business change activities have the required sponsorship, providing appropriate support and guidance on planning and implementing operational changes within their respective functions.

  • Leading the evolution and continual improvement of our central framework to assess the impact of change initiatives, from identification of an opportunity, through to embedding change and assessing the benefits.

  • Working with the Programme Portfolio Director to ensure appropriate budgetary provision is made for the comms, training and change management team and its scope of activities.

To succeed in this role, you will:

  • Have significant experience in business change strategy and delivery in a range of programmes. This could include Supply Chain, Technology, Process Improvement or Data.

  • Have line management experience to successfully coach and mentor your team throughout the whole Change Management lifecycle.

  • Establish a community of change professionals across the business to share best practice and experience. Proactively engaging, mentoring, and encouraging the community to work collaboratively.

  • Be an effective planner, able to manage multiple change project streams, oversee comms and training specialists and able in each to respond to changing business priorities.

  • Be comfortable working in a hybrid environment, and with adapting methodologies to understand business culture and opportunities.

  • Be a strategic thinker – able to think ahead, anticipate problems, and proactively offer creative solutions.

  • Have deep skills in process mapping and improvement, comms and training plans, cultural change programmes and delivery of all Change artifacts

  • Be a strategic planner – ability to define roadmaps, resources, deliverables and KPIs.

  • Have strong analytical skills with the ability to analyse and make judgement calls on competing requirements, recommending courses of action.

  • Have strong influencing and interpersonal skills, able to establish relationships, engage with stakeholders and influence through all levels of the organisation.

Our approach to hybrid working:

We’re currently experimenting with hybrid working and involving colleagues across the business to shape our future ways of working. The needs of our teams and individuals are different, so we’re not taking a one-size-fits-all approach. While our offices are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility about where you work is just as important for doing your best work and for your wellbeing.

For this role, you will have influence over where you work, to deliver at your best. There are some meetings and activities that you will need to attend in person, mainly at our offices in London and on occasion, in Colchester. The exact balance of office to remote working will depend on the nature of live projects and team needs, and we are open to discussing this through the recruitment process.

Please apply with your CV and cover letter by Sunday 21st May.

Salary: £80,000 - £90,000 depending on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus benefits.

Our employees are the heart of our business. We have a range of benefits to reflect our commitment to our employees, some of which are:

  • 27 days paid holiday entitlement in year one (plus bank holidays), increasing a day each year up to 30 days
  • Medical cover
  • Life assurance
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Discounted gym membership
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Summer working hours (role dependent)
  • Volunteering policy and charity matching
  • Employee Assistance programme
  • Mentoring programme
  • Extended gender neutral parental leave
  • Access to books and eBooks across Penguin Random House UK
  • Each site has trained mental health first aiders
  • We plant a tree for every new employee to our business

Our creativity is inspired by different perspectives, so we want our culture to be one of belonging, where everyone feels welcome and where differences are celebrated.
