Background
Hyundai Capital UK Ltd (HCUK) is a joint venture company established by Santander Consumer UK and Hyundai Capital Services Korea in 2012. It operates under the Hyundai Finance, Kia Finance and Genesis Finance brands, providing funding solutions for both Retailers and Consumers.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Job Purpose
The Finance team is responsible for the budgetary process and cost control to help the company achieve its objectives, which requires all members of the team to work closely with all departments across the business. The key purpose of the role is to lead a functional area within our Finance department, managing the provision of technical support, advice and information and continuously improving appropriate frameworks, practices, and policies.
Key Accountabilities
1. General Strategic & Policy Development
Under the guidance of the Chief Finance Office (CFO) and Finance Director (FD), lead on planning & developing HCUK’s Finance related strategy with specific focus on:
- Lead and coordinate the development of the annual business strategic plans for specific parts of the Company.
- Lead and coordinate the development of department plans, ensuring alignment with overall finance strategy.
- Lead and coordinate the development of finance policies and procedures.
- Make recommendations to the Company on impact of new issues and manage change.
- Identify, investigate, and implement new approaches and techniques to report and reflect the direction of the Company.
- Develop and implement medium-term plans for functional area including resource requirements, prioritisation, and coordination of team to deliver strategy
2. Control Business Area
Manage, monitor, and report on internal control with respect to:
- Management accounting: budgeting, monthly closing, reporting, cost management and manging procurement process.
- Financial Accounting: Tax, VAT and Statutory Reporting.
3. Technical
Provide robust planning and forecasting which includes:
- Direct, monitor and review the technical activities of the functional area, including understanding policy requirements, assessment of implications and guidance to employees and executive management on their application.
- Lead and coordinate the development of new standards, systems and processes which will improve the services provided to the Company and ensure compliance with new and changing legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical advice to team and CFO/FD.
- Provide technical advice and input to wider departments to support strategic initiatives and tactical / operational actions across HCUK.
4. Continuous Improvement
- Continually evaluate the effectiveness of the function and seek to improve, investigate, research, and implement and recommend new approaches and techniques, keeping abreast of changing environment, ensuring industry best practice is applied.
- Create and evaluate new alternatives to drive effectiveness and productivity of the function.
5. Reporting
Take responsibility on all aspects of management financial reporting:
- Performance report/ Key index.
- MC group/ Santander report.
- Preparation of HCUK / Santander Consumer UK (SCUK) Board papers.
- Coordination and preparation of MBR monthly reporting.
- Detail analysis report requested from CFO/FD and wider SMT.
- Other ad-hoc reports requested from the Company or shareholders.
6. Committee
- Assists provide support to Finance controller and other senior management to manage financial matters properly through EFC (Executive Finance Committee) and ALCO (Assets & Liabilities Committee).
- Assist in discussions on HCUK’s financial performance with key internal (HCUK SMT) and external (SCUK SMT / Hyundai Capital Services) stakeholders.
7. Business Intelligence
- Manage HCUK’s BI function.
- Ensure consistency and completeness of data.
- Lead and coordinate improvements and implementation of automated reporting, working with other HCUK departments to understand and fulfil their reporting needs.
- Lead and coordinate the development of cross departmental training to explain and encourage the use of BI reporting in day-to-day activities.
8. People Development
- Accountable for setting high level objectives for direct reports and effectively managing performance.
- Ensure direct reports are adequately trained and supported to carry out their roles effectively.
- Encourage learning and development and create opportunities for personal/ professional development.
9. Risk & Compliance
- In line with the company’s risk and compliance statement of responsibility and objectives, identify and assess risks, incidents, and breaches. Identify opportunities and provide suggestions within area of influence and promote awareness across your team. Ensure related actions are progressed within agreed timescales.
- Under the FCA’s Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SMCR), the Head of FP&A role is allocated as a Certified Person.
10. Other
- Carry out any other tasks from time to time as may reasonably be requested.

Required experience
Given the scope of this position within an FCA regulated environment, the Certified Person’s status, combined with the related responsibilities, it is essential that the job holder has the following experience:
- High level of professional knowledge required and broad knowledge of technical field/ business.
- Sound financial services/ broad business knowledge.
- Proven experience of managing finance functions including accounting and leading through change
- Ability to have a significant input into discussions at a senior management level and cross-functionally and therefore a wide variety of experience is essential.
- Experience of developing and maintaining effective relationships with Executives and Senior Managers, within and outside Finance, through personal credibility and delivery of results.
- Involvement in the development of policies, procedures and standards of the department and the business over a long horizon. Able to develop own functional plans.
- Ability to coach, mentor and manage other senior professionals and manage the knowledge base of the functional area.
- Ability to think conceptually, creatively and without precedents to continually develop functional area.
- Ability to interpret and evaluate information and make authoritative recommendations.
- Considerable experience of people management, including performance management and application of HR policies.
Education
- Due to the numerate nature of the role a relevant qualification is essential – statistical qualification, ACCA, ACA, CIMA Accountancy, Tax or equivalent
