Brief Description
To provide possession protection and support as directed by the possession management staff within the area, for given weeks of any programme year, under the jurisdiction of the senior PICOP/PICOP.
About the role (External)
Key Accountabilities
- Undertake Possession Support activities as directed.
- Undertake Hand Signalman activities as directed.
- Operate Level Crossing Barriers as directed.
- Able to drive road vehicles with full, clean license preferred.
- Check certificates in date for validation and report same expiry date to line management.
Qualifications and Training
Previous rail maintenance experience is advantageous as are the following competencies: PTS, COSS/IWA, Hand Signalman and PS
Full training in all aspects of the job including extensive safety training will be provided but you will need to be a quick learner, who can follow instructions.
Safety Responsibilities
- Ensure that you and your staff and sub-contractors under your management or control work safely and comply with all current and relevant health, safety and environmental legislation including Railway Group and Line Standards.
- Ensure that you and your staff and sub-contractors under your management or control assess and control risks and plan and implement safe methods of working and are competent to carry out the task.
- Ensure the safety of passengers, the general public and the environment is not affected by the activities of you, your staff and contractors under your control.
- Ensure that accidents, incidents or near misses to you or staff under your control are reported to Infrastructure Control, the Regional Safety Section and to your Supervisor/Manager, and that the Accident Book is filled in promptly.
- Ensure you and your staff participates in the Company cascade safety briefings.
· Be aware of the relevance and importance of activities which you, or those working under your direction are required to undertake and how these contribute to achievement of quality policy and business objectives

Our Drugs and Alcohol Standard is changing as of 16.01.2023. All prospective candidates who have not been offered a conditional role by 16.01.2023 will be required to undergo and pass a drugs and alcohol test. Your application will be rescinded if you record a positive test. All positive drugs and alcohol test results for prospective candidates will be securely held on Sentinel database and a 5 year suspension from applying for a safety critical role, a role which requires PTS certification or a Key Safety role on Network Rail Managed Infrastructure will be enforced.
