Group Therapist
HMP Dovegate
Full Time – Permanent
40 hours

HMP Dovegate is a category B male establishment prison based on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border near Uttoxeter Here at Serco we have a vacancy for a Group Therapist to join our Therapeutic Community Team. The operational capacity is for 1100 prisoners who are serving a range of sentences including; trial, remand, those awaiting sentence and convicted men serving up to life in prison. Joining our onsite team at this category B prison, you’ll play a key role in making a difference to the lives of our residents.
The key purpose of your role serves to embed and maintain the established principles of a high performing Therapeutic Community by delivering a clinical service delivery with a staff team in the form of group work-based practices. You will contribute to the clinical support and development of your Community. You will also contribute to the accreditation, quality assurance and clinical performance of your community, aligning with the necessary regulatory frameworks and ensuring that this is a minimum baseline for performance. Ultimately you must ensure that the accredited therapy model is delivered, embedded and maintained on a 24/7 basis across the whole of the Community.

Key accountabilities:*

To contribute in the assessment and treatment of residents with complex mental health problems, including people with severe, enduring multiple disorders, and challenging behaviour. This will include facilitating therapy groups, community meetings, chairing reviews, completing assessments and writing reports as well as other tasks.

To utilise research skills for audit, measuring outcomes and contributing to research and training within the areas served by the team and service.
*
Contribute to reducing re-offending and improving psychological health and wellbeing through managing the effective and efficient delivery of a therapeutic intervention.
- To produce reports for Parole reviews as required and attend oral hearings as a witness to provide evidence regarding residents’ progress in therapy.

To be involved in service development as appropriate.

To work within professional guidelines and other overall frameworks within C of C’s policies and procedures.

To ensure that your community fully meets all requirements external to a Therapeutic environment, but that is expected of all residential accommodation (HMIP, Security, IEP, ACCT, Violence Reduction and so forth).
- To ensure that therapeutic processes are maximised to support and maintain cleanliness, repair and condition of living accommodation and common areas.
- To contribute to training within Dovegate regarding TC and TC promotion across the prison estate.

What you will need to do the role:*
*
You will be psychotherapist or counsellor and / or group analyst in training leading to a BACP or UKCP registration. Or a Prison Custodial Officer with experience of group therapy on a therapeutic community or have extensive experience of delivering group interventions within a forensic environment.

The post holder will need to be able to work autonomously, have experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and be able to make good use of supervision and line management.

The position requires knowledge of Forensic Psychological & Democratic Therapeutic Community theories, practices & procedures employed within a custodial setting, requiring experience of delivering therapeutic environments or practices, preferably in a forensic setting.

The post holder will have knowledge on clinical and theoretical topics relevant to a psychoanalytic psychotherapist practicing in a forensic setting. The emphasis will be on treatment delivery
