The Opportunity:

An exciting opportunity to lead the teams that develop, nurture and maintain the golf courses at our 15 premier country clubs across the U.K. This role will be instrumental in elevating our golf proposition and player experience.

As Group Course Manager, you will lead the talented and dedicated team that look after our diverse collection of golf courses across England. You will liaise directly with Club General Managers to ensure the best presentation of the golf journey that our members and guests experience, from the moment they arrive at our facilities.

The club’s success is underpinned by its hardworking team, considerable member base and regular visitors.

The Club Company’s strategy is to organically grow its collection of 15 country clubs across England and acquire more clubs.

Please Note: this role will require considerable and continual travel to our 15 clubs located throughout the U.K.

The Purpose of the Role:

To manage the planning, execution and final delivery of all standards - defined and ad hoc - relating to the golf course across the group.

Responsible for the overall course management, including preparation, maintenance, machinery, disease prevention and control and overall delivery of the golf course standards.

To adhere to all standard operating procedures whilst directing and monitoring the work of all club course managers.

Inspire and motivate the team to deliver an exceptional guest experience, manage and develop performance demonstrating respect and recognition of team members.

Monitor the club golf course budget, monitor the quality of the Club’s products and services and ensure maximum customer satisfaction and retention.

Ensure Health and Safety best practice is observed at all times. Secure and protect the Club Company’s assets including facilities and equipment.

The Role Description:

  • Coordinates the development of the Company long-range and annual (business) plans in efforts to move toward the Company mission.
  • Collaborating closely with the club course managers, advances the clubs golf course plans, maintains continual dialogue on issues facing the individual clubs and identifies actual or anticipated problems.
  • Provide detailed feedback, course appraisal and agreed action plans to Club General Managers at each club visit.
  • Apprises the Club Company Executive team of trends, new opportunities, changing circumstances and unexpected occurrences that could result in making changes to the strategic plan.
  • Monitors long and short-term objectives and financial reports and, in consultation with the finance team and Group Operations & Estates Director, prepares a financial plan for the golf courses.
  • In conjunction with the People & Talent Director, maintains people rules and regulations, work schedules, internal controls and a performance appraisal system.
  • Accountable for ensuring the clubs offer the highest standards of golf course.
  • Establishes and monitors compliance with purchasing policies and procedures; reviews and approves purchasing procedures and requirements as laid out within the Group Authority Document.
  • Works with the club course managers to schedule, supervise and direct the work of all greenkeepers where required. Confers with them about team-related matters including job changes and performance evaluation.
  • Understand the need to balance the demands of the golfer and the requirements of course management by liaising when necessary, with Club Golf Operations managers to ensure that members and guests receive a premium service
  • Convenes and presides over meetings with department managers and conducts regular full team meetings.
  • To assist in the coordination and course presentation of group wide club events e.g. Champion of Champions, Captains Championship etc.
  • Oversees purchasing, receiving, storage, issuing, preparation and control of all products, supplies and equipment.
  • Oversees risk management programmes to ensure that adequate safety measures are in place to protect members, team and Club assets.
  • To ensure a high degree of personal presentation and hygiene in line with the company’s dress and appearance policy.
  • To be a positive ambassador for the Company’s CARE values at all times.
  • Responsible for supporting with Feed-It-Back in relation to guest/member survey results.

The Person Specification:

  • Substantial private club, golf, leisure or hospitality industry experience with previous managerial experience essential.
  • Multi-site experience preferred and a distinct advantage.
  • Proactive and driven to achieve.
  • Need to demonstrate an understanding of what is best in class and work to exceed member expectation.
  • Calm, professional and approachable.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with golf course maintenance, machinery, chemicals
  • Knowledge of the latest agronomic best practices
  • Minimum qualification to level 4 Sports Turf management or equivalent
  • A proven people manager, comfortable with managing all aspects of the team dynamics – unafraid to have the difficult conversations.
  • Financial understanding of budgets, P&L and payroll.

  • Salary up to £70K equivalent to experience
  • Potential to earn 10% of annual salary based on agreed objectives
