What you’ll be doing
As a Grounds Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for maintaining the parks, gardens, open spaces, road sides, and commercial premises within Slough Borough Council to the highest horticultural and customer care standards. Your duties will encompass:
- grass cutting
- hedge and shrub maintenance
- litter collection and furniture cleaning
- maintenance of various ornamental planting features
- preparation of sports pitches
- application of weed killer
- landscaping projects
- playground inspection and maintenance.
You will have the opportunity to work both independently and as part of a team dedicated to ensuring Slough remains a welcoming and safe place to visit.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all duties safely, following Safe Systems of Work, Method Statements, and Risk Assessments.
- Attend training courses, tool-box-talks, project and work briefings as required.
- Report and record task status using electronic devices or paperwork as needed, maintaining clear communication with the control room/supervisor.
- Report close calls, near misses, accidents, incidents, or any issues affecting your work promptly to your supervisor/manager.
- Maintain professional and courteous interactions with the public, team members, managers, and subcontractors, resolving on-site issues with minimal inconvenience.
- Provide high-quality service and customer care, always presenting a professional image through the use of prescribed uniform and PPE.
- Safely use and care for tools, equipment, plant, and allocated vehicles:
- Conduct safety checks on vehicles, equipment, and tools and report defects promptly.
- Report missing tools, faulty equipment, or PPE immediately to your supervisor/manager.
- Drive vehicles safely when required for material, equipment, and personnel transport and waste disposal, adhering to all applicable legislation and road safety rules.
- Utilize tools, equipment, plant, and vehicles for which you have received training and hold valid certificates.
