The Royal Air Force Charitable Trust (RAFCT) is the parent charity of Royal Air Force Charitable Trust Enterprises (RAFCTE), the organisation that runs the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT).
We provide grants that deliver innovative STEM and aviation opportunities that support our vision and mission, all year round, partnering with key commercial partners and delivery organisations. The Royal International Air Tattoo is the charity’s main fundraising opportunity.
What are we looking for?
We are recruiting for a Ground Operations Manager to support the delivery of the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) Showground and supporting elements.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Lead and manage temporary staff recruited to support the annual delivery of the air show.
- In accordance with the Health and Safety Executive Regulations, the Ground
Operations Manager is appointed the Principal Contractor for the Air Tattoo,
working to the Head of Ground Operations, who is appointed Principal
Designer.
- Plan through-year and oversee the construction of the RIAT Site from initial
ground mark out to final piece of equipment removal post-event.
- Manage the procurement process from contract tender, through negotiation and signature to deposit, delivery, recovery, invoice scrutiny and final payment across all Ground Operations budget lines.
- Responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate monthly budget updates.
- Manage all aspects of the RIAT Construction Phase Plan and site build in
accordance with CDM (2015) Regulations with support from the Company
Functional Safety Manager. Ultimately ensuring timely delivery of the construction phase.
- Plan and/or Infrastructure: Empowered to deputise for the Head of Ground
Operations when required.
- Manage the warehouse at Douglas Bader House together with 26 RIAT ISO storage containers and contents located on the RAF Fairford main base.
- Responsible for building maintenance.
Type of Contract/Working hours
Full-time (36.25 hours per week) typically 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, with flexible working available.
Some weekend working will also be required from time to time to fulfil responsibilities. Applicants must be able to commit to working the weekend of the Royal International Air Tattoo (2023 – 15thand 16thJuly)
What we will offer
A salary range from £35,000 - £42,000 is accompanied by pension, private healthcare and 4x life assurance, we also hold staff wellbeing and social events throughout the year.
You will also be given two complimentary tickets to The Royal International Air Tattoo and a staff discount of 50% for an additional six.
About You
If you have experience of project and event management with the ability to lead and support teams in a dynamic and time critical environment, then we strongly encourage you to apply.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential, along with a Health and Safety at Work qualification and knowledge of event construction regulations and guidance.
