Job Title: Grinder (Manual)

Location: Ramsgate, Kent

Salary: up to £30,000

Hours:

Earlies 0600-1400 (Monday to Friday)

Days 0800-1630 (Monday to Friday)

Lates 1415-0030 (Monday to Wednesday) and 1415-2330 (Thursday)

Key responsibilities within your new role would be to:
  • Efficiently and efficiently deliver the day-to-day operation of the machine shop, undertaking tasks as directed by the Cell Leader.
  • Ensure production schedules are met, adhering to customer requirements.
  • Support the control of Environmental, Health & Safety and Quality, maintaining compliance with all industry regulations.
  • Provide support for the machine shop ensuring NCRs, audit findings, non-conformance's are fully investigated and completed in a timely manner.
  • Prepare a variety of machines for grinding (cylindrical, surface, internal and planetary grinding).
  • Grinding, deburring and polishing work pieces to bring them to the desired shape and dimensions, in accordance with the design specifications.
  • Mounting and dismounting work pieces on and off the grinding machine.
  • Check finished pieces with relevant measuring equipment for quality control.
  • Ensure grinding wheels are dressed accordingly to specifications so machines remain at peak working capability.
  • Report any machining or fabrication defects.
  • Carry out maintenance pf the grinding machines and cutting tools.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Maintain and improve housekeeping.
  • Assist with certain elements of machine maintenance (preventative and scheduled).
  • Support with the training and development of other employees.
  • Support with the implementation of initiatives to improve manpower utilisation and process improvements.
  • Improve safety by addressing and raising concerns for physical safety issues and attitudes.
  • Encourage progression planning for your development and ensure accurate population of the skills matrix.
  • Deliver results to meet the strategic objectives of the business.
  • Ensure SOPs, Risk Assessments and Local Instructions are kept up to date and delivered to the team accordingly.
  • Working with hazardous chemicals.
  • Working with lathes, precision grinders and mills etc.
  • Working with high temperature treatments.
  • Working with dry grit, cast steel shots, glass beads and plastic media with the potential for dust exposure.
  • Potential exposure to noise and coolant mist.
Experience and skills required for this position:
  • Physically fit.
  • Computer literate.
  • Understand lean process principles.
  • The ability to repeat the same job sheet for 8 hours per day.
  • The ability to read technical and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience with cylindrical, surface, internal and planetary grinding.
  • Experience of boring, turning and milling.
  • Ideally experience grinding chrome.
  • Ideally experience of working with imperial measuring systems.
  • An understanding of Environmental, Health & Safety and Risk Assessments.
