Job Description

General Scope

The UWSA is the full-time undergraduate student union at the University of Windsor. The Graphic Designer and Communications Coordinator handles UWSA's marketing and communications. They develop and execute media and public relations strategies for UWSA events, maintain UWSA's website and social media, publish the Campus Compass and oversees the Lance Community Newspaper. Their goal is to promote and protect the UWSA brand and reputation. They report to the General Manager and serve all full-time undergraduate members of the university.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with brand development and implementation.
  • Maintain UWSA website and social media content.
  • Formulate effective marketing strategies for UWSA events and initiatives.
  • Publicize student and campus events on UWSA website and online media.
  • Draft and publish graphic materials and press releases.
  • Improve communication between UWSA and student membership with Executives.
  • Research advertising market prices.
  • Maintain UWSA communications manual, branding package, templates, designs, etc.
  • Recruit, train, and schedule Ignite students and volunteers.
  • Design and publish "The Campus Compass" and secure advertising.
  • Act as Editor in Chief for Lance Community News Paper.
  • Recruit, edit, and approve content from independent journalists and volunteer writers as required.
  • Secure advertisers and sponsors for Lance.
  • Provide support to UWSA Executive Team.
  • Fulfill other assigned duties.
  • ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Maintain the content of the UWSA website and social media channels.
  • Serve on any committees as it relates to the position, upon request or by virtue of the position.
  • Continuous publication of the Lance Community Newspaper.
  • Ensure Campus Compass is ready for delivery every year by the end of August.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Communications Department yearly budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Ensure all deadlines are met

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • A post-secondary degree in graphic design, journalism, communications, marketing or public relations.
  • Mastery of social media and understanding of the types of creative content and strategies that perform well on various social platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok, Instagram, Youtube).
  • Exceptional writing, verbal and editing skills.
  • Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop or similar program is required.
  • Proficiency with WordPress or similar website software is required.
  • Experience with video editing, video shooting software would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with DSLR camera and still photography would be preferred.
