Job description
The Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging website, printed publications, and social media deliver information about education, research, clinical care, and industry partnerships to prospective trainees and faculty, patients, academic and industry collaborators, and the general public. Communication materials developed by this position impact department climate and culture; trainee and faculty recruitment; relations with patients, donors, alumni, and industry partners.
Key functions of this position include writing, editing, designing, and producing communications for print, website, or social media. It also involves producing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating the production of printed and/or electronic newsletters, reports, promotional, and other materials. The position will act as a project manager for the communications unit to deliver high quality products with the desired message within time constraints.
Confers with department faculty, web specialists, project directors, and related staff to prepare and produce proposed publications for digital and print media; verifies that format of copy conforms to printing and/or electronic publishing specifications; and manages workflow and timelines.
This position is responsible for helping the department leverage print and digital tools to produce print and digital publications that are consistent, timely, and aligned with our strategic plan, with a focus on measuring and analyzing effectiveness.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Produce well-written, carefully edited, thoughtfully designed and consistent newsletters, articles, blog posts, social media campaigns, presentations, and reports using PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Constant Contact, Adobe Creative Suite, and other relevant tools
- Project management to meet production timelines
- Assist with management of the main department website, including content updates and webpage creation
- Assist with collection of analytics, and provide data analysis and recommendations for improvement
- Ability to work in sensitive environments
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description
Because of the large size of the department and the high volume of transactions, with over $65 million annual clinical budget and over $50 million in academic research activities, effective communication within the Department and outside is essential. The role of the Content and Creative Specialist is critical to disseminate timely, clear communication to department stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in communication, health, public relations or related area and three years of experience in communications and/or marketing, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent writing, editing, and design skills including ability to translate technical information for general audiences, and ability to adapt messages to reach different professional audiences
- Strong knowledge of the usage and applications of print and digital communication tools and skill in using same. Skill in choosing the most appropriate and effective applications.
- Excellent interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills
- Ability to succeed in remote, self-directed/autonomous work environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively direct technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications.
- Knowledge of the organization, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices, infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, and issues in higher education and / or health sciences.
- Solid skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans.
