Job Summary

Katalyst is a nimble licensed product company, based in Toronto, ON, that is poised for growth in 2023 and beyond. We have partnered with major licensors, such as Disney, Marvel, Lucas, HBO, CBS, and Sesame Street, to produce licensed housewares and collectibles for the mass and specialty markets in Canada and the United States.

Katalyst is looking to fill a key role in its product development team. While the principal function will be as a graphic designer, the ideal candidate will possess the ability to multi-task, as well as occasionally assist with other vital functions, such as product development and production.

We are searching for a self starter who is willing to work hard to grow with our company. Achieving these growth targets will unlock a plethora of new, exciting professional opportunities.

You also move with a sense of urgency, are well organized, possess problem solving skills, and an ability to prioritize critical tasks.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Layout, design, and draw in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Retail Package Design
  • Assist with the development of initial product concepts and ideas
  • Identify and utilize key graphics found in licensor’s style guides
  • Ensure that product designs can be appropriately manufactured within current capabilities
  • Archive and organize all materials for projects
  • Manage a record of the entire product development process
  • Submit designs for approval with licensors / manage approval relationships
  • Communicate critical production details with printers / factories

Qualifications and Skills

Skills & Requirements:

  • Minimum 2-3 years design experience in a professional environment
  • Expert grasp of Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite: Word, Excel & PowerPoint, and Windows operating systems
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of printing and pre-press processes
  • Detail and deadline oriented
  • Strong organization and project management skills
  • Self-starter, with the confidence to manage upward
  • Critical thinker
  • Some experience designing hard goods, housewares, consumer products, etc.

Assets:

  • Printing and/or production experience
  • Second language: French, Mandarin
  • Ability to identify trends / knowledge of our properties
  • 3D product design experience / capabilities
  • Experience designing point of purchase displays
