Are you a recent graduate wanting experience in a library or information environment? We are offering a planned and supervised library experience at Cambridge, working in the Customer Services team of the University Library. A range of developmental activities will be included in the timetable and visits to other libraries will be possible. There will also be the opportunity to participate in the learning and development offered to all library staff.
We are seeking an individual to fill our Graduate Trainee post at Cambridge from 1 September 2023 – 31st August 2024. This role is intended for graduates wishing to gain a range of experience in library and information work before undertaking a postgraduate qualification in librarianship or information science so those with a library qualification will not be considered for this post.
Join our Cambridge team answering first line enquiries which include basic IT enquiries. You will be timetabled for frontline enquiry work and customer support which is provided in person, by telephone, and online via email or chat. A proportion of your time will be spent working on stock tasks including checking lists, scanning books and articles, and buying then logging new items of stock as it arrives. You’ll participate in a range of other tasks relating to the circulation of our stock and management of our spaces, as well as other duties and projects on a rotational basis. Training in all tasks will be provided.
With a degree in any discipline you will have experience in a customer service environment, familiarity with libraries, and evidence of successfully working in a team.
Your working week will be 37 hours, working 8.30-17.00 Monday to Friday. There may be occasional Saturday or evening work to cover Open Days and other events.
