Job description

As a Graduate Software Engineer, the opportunity to design and develop software solutions that that have a tangible impact on the safety of the U.K. whilst having the opportunity to launch your career will fascinate you.

Because it’s not about leaving university and joining a graduate scheme that improves the efficiency of a takeaway app. It’s honing your skills somewhere that has earned the confidence and trust of governments, agencies and organisations around the world, making the world a safer place for millions of people.

Roke are a leading technology & engineering company with clients spanning National Security, Defence and Industry 4.0 through our Futures business and Intelligence as a Service. You will work alongside our customers to solve their complex and unique challenges.

As our next Graduate Software Engineer, you’ll be researching client challenges, new technologies, new techniques and learning to create compelling user stories. This new knowledge will enable you to deliver mission critical software, test it and then deploy; providing a unique opportunity to witness the effect of your efforts.

The Key Requirements...

  • A recent degree-level qualification in a STEM related subject
  • Proficient in at least one programming language (i.e., Java, Javascript, Python, C, C++ or Go)
  • A willingness to learn and work across multiple software languages.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of software lifecycles and methodologies.

Built over a 60-year heritage, Roke offers specialist knowledge in sensors, communications, cyber, and AI and ML. We change the way organisations think and act – through dynamic insights from the analysis of multiple layers of data. We take care of the innovative, technical stuff that keeps everyone safe – that’s our mission, passion, and motivation.

Joining a team united by purpose and ambition, you’ll be at the heart of an exciting growth journey: having doubled in size over the last 4 years, we intend to double our headcount by 2027. At Roke, every individual counts. We push technical boundaries, together. We re-invest in product innovation, and we empower our people to make a difference.

With us you’ll have the opportunity to develop professionally and technically, whilst pushing the boundaries of innovation. Making the extraordinary, every day.

Where you’ll work…

Alongside hybrid and flexible working options, you’ll work in either our Romsey, Manchester, or Gloucester office….

You’ll find our Romsey site located within beautiful Hampshire countryside, close to the picturesque New Forest District and not far from a superb stretch of the south coast. This is no corporate concrete jungle; this is a manor house site, with ample parking an on-site gym and a driveway full of daffodils in the spring.

Our Manchester site is located in the heart of Media City, Europe’s fastest growing tech hub. You’ll become a key part of Roke’s growing local tech community as we support the Government levelling up agenda. There is easy, local access to our client community with great transport links and nearby local parking.

And it’s exciting times for Roke in Gloucester, in October we are moving to a brand-new bespoke office located on junction 11A of the M5. More details will be provided if you successfully move through our selection process.

The Benefits and Perks...

  • Hybrid working: A minimum of 40% of your monthly hours working at your base/client location, subject to role requirements
  • A generous relocation/settling in allowance to help you either move to the local area and/or settle in to your new role
  • Flexi-time: Working hours to suit you and your life
  • Annual bonus: Based on profit share and personal performance
  • Healthcare Cash Plan Cover: helping to cover the costs of routine healthcare
  • Holiday: 25 days plus public holidays and your birthday off
  • Chemring Share Save: Monthly savings into a 3- or 5-year plan.

Clearances…

Due to the nature of this role, we require you to be eligible to achieve SC and DV clearance. As a result, you should be a British Citizen and have resided in the U.K. for the last 10 years.

The Next Step...

Click apply, submitting an up-to-date CV. Roke assessment day will be scheduled throughout November 2023. We look forward to hearing from you.
