Job Description:
Who We Are
Micro Focus is one of the world's largest enterprise software providers, delivering the mission-critical software that keeps the digital world running. We combine pragmatism, discipline, and customer-centric innovation to deliver trusted, proven solutions that customers need to succeed in today's rapidly evolving marketplace. That’s high-tech without the drama.
How Could You Help Us Do This?
We are recruiting Graduate Software Engineers to join our agile development teams within our Application Modernization and Connectivity product group to develop modern tools for our COBOL and Enterprise product suites. Successful candidates will develop, deploy, and modernise solutions for distributed, virtual and cloud platforms and industry leading mainframe offload and emulation solutions.
Don’t know COBOL? No problem, we’ll teach you what you need to know as part of the training programme, and you’ll have a highly desired and, hard to find, industry skill.
What Kind of Work Would You Be Doing?
After an initial graduate training programme, you will join one of our development teams, working alongside industry experts, collaborating, contributing, and delivering projects towards our next release, covering a mix of new features, resolution of customer issues and bug fixes.
Our technologies include multiple COBOL language compilers, platform optimisations, debugging, runtime APIs (Application Program Interface) and IDE (Integrated Development Environment) integrations with Eclipse, Visual Studio 2022, and VS (Visual Studio) Code. Our teams also work on our mainframe emulation environments, powering millions of business-critical functions for our customers on their platforms of choice, both physical and virtual, using Windows, Unix, Container and Cloud. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to code in various languages including COBOL, C, C++, C#, Java and more.
What Can Micro Focus Offer You?
Our development teams have a wealth of experience to share, and you'll find a friendly, relaxed, goal-orientated atmosphere with great team spirit: supporting and learning from each other is a huge part of our culture.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of technologies and platforms, offering a fantastic chance for personal growth and development in a supportive environment.
Benefits
- Competitive salary and a three-year Graduate scheme with salary reviews twice a year.
- Initial four weeks of on-site induction training in Newbury with other graduates.
- introduction to each of our specialised development teams within the first 6 months of joining
- Work in a friendly and collaborative environment that values employee work/life balance.
- Be supported and learn from recent graduates, industry experts, technical leads, and personal Mentors.
- Hybrid working with typically 1-2 days in the office per week.
- Relaxed dress code.
What are we looking for?
Requirements
- A passion for learning new skills to help the world’s largest organizations evolve and grow.
- Minimum 2:1 degree in Computer Science or other technical discipline.
- Strong evidence of academic, personal, or commercial coding experience.
- A highly personable team player who can work effectively with colleagues and customers.
Desirable but not Essential
- Good self-motivation and the ability to work well individually and in a team.
- Coding experience in COBOL, C, C#, C++, or Java.
- Interest in open-source projects
- Good working knowledge of programming in a Windows, Unix, or Linux environment.
