ROLE OVERVIEW

The team

The UK Early Talent team are responsible for the attraction, recruitment and development of trainee solicitors and apprentices (legal and business services) across the RPC Bristol and London offices.

Alongside the Resourcing & Early Talent Lead, Early Talent Manager and the Early Talent Apprentice, you will provide a professional, efficient and proactive client service. In collaboration with the Senior Early Talent Executive, the role will also have responsibility for supervising the Early Talent Apprentice.

The role

This is a new role within a growing team. Responsibilities are likely to include:

Resourcing

  • Working with the Senior Early Talent Executive to design and implement the UK Early Talent marketing, events and internship campaigns, including; external media, open days, events and presentations, summer schemes and virtual work experience programmes. The role will include booking and organising the various events and programmes, finding speakers/volunteers, contributing towards content design, arranging recruitment collateral, keeping internal and external Early Talent publications and website entries up to date and attending the various events (virtually and in person) as a firm representative.
  • Liaising with external consultants, suppliers and third-party organisations.
  • Assisting the Early Talent team to screen apprentice, summer scheme and training contract applications to shortlist candidates for the different stages in the recruitment process.
  • Responsible for (with the support of the Early Talent Apprentice) managing diaries, booking interviews, setting up psychometric tests, collating packs of assessment materials for both candidates and assessors and organising the distribution of candidate feedback reports.
  • Performing a core role as part of the assessment team on trainee and apprentice assessment days.

People Advisory

  • Supporting the Early Talent team with the delivery of the people advisory service to trainees and apprentices. This will include, but is not limited to; seat deployment, trainee forum, group benchmarking meetings, NQ planning, and trainee seat reviews.
  • Is a point of contact for the trainee solicitors and apprentices (including future and current apprentices and trainee solicitors).
  • Working with the Early Talent and Learning & Development teams to organise pre-joining events for future trainee and apprentice intakes (currently 4 events per annum). Includes managing diaries, booking rooms, designing invites, liaising with attendees, booking social venues.
  • Assisting with the preparation of any People elements of the apprentice and trainee induction (annually in September).
  • Organising the annual Seat Spotlights for first seat trainees. This will involve liaising with legal groups, booking rooms and refreshments.

People Processes

  • Expert user of online recruitment systems (CVMail, RARE, Watson Glaser, Vero, TopScore, Connectr and Forage) to process candidates through the various stages of their application (submission, form updates, communications, testing, interview scheduling, assisting with offers, reporting).
  • Working with the Early Talent Apprentice and supervising them in these tasks where relevant:
  • Expert user of internal HR system (Success Factors). Manages the starter/leaver/seat move/secondment process for the client group including paperwork and system updates.
  • Setting up and maintaining e-files for new trainee and apprentice intakes and ensuring they are up-to-date and accurate.
  • Ad-hoc correspondence - responsible for drafting initial offer paperwork, references, firm updates, invites to pre-joining events, pre-joining instructions, congratulation cards & gifts.
  • Dealing with ad-hoc enquiries submitted via the graduate recruitment inbox, website or by telephone and escalating where appropriate.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB)

  • Supports the Early Talent and Responsible Business teams to help deliver on the firm's ESG strategy, working closely with internal (RPC communities) and external stakeholders (Rare, SEO, BIUCAC, Aspiring Solicitors, 93% Club, Bright Network, Stafford Long).
  • Working with the Senior Early Talent Executive to design and run the annual 10,000 Black Interns programme.
  • Keeps abreast of market trends in relation to Early Talent and ESG.

Other

  • Involved in developing and delivering on People projects when appropriate
  • Keeping up to date with key developments in the Legal sector by attending the ISE Legal town hall and other external meetings/conferences as and when required
  • Any other ad-hoc duties and support on early talent recruitment projects that may be required

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Previous Early Talent or recruitment experience within a professional services firm
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Organised, efficient and able to manage upwards
  • Excellent communication skills (both orally and in writing)
  • Enjoys speaking to external candidates about career opportunities
  • The ability to adapt to shifting priorities and adapt plans accordingly
  • Takes initiative and demonstrates problem-solving skills, knowing when to consult with others and ask for help
  • Good attention to detail
  • Able to work as part of team, but also be self-motivated
  • Enthusiastic and able to remain calm under pressure
  • High level of confidentiality and integrity; discreet and able to deal with sensitive information
  • Required to work outside of usual office hours during busy periods (overtime will be paid)
