An exciting opportunity has arisen at Geotechnics’ Chester office for a team of 4* recent graduate (Geology, Geography, Engineering, Earth Science) students to join the team as Graduate Engineers* and work across the Northwest and beyond. You will be trained, coached and mentored by our team of friendly, experienced and incredibly knowledgeable engineers along a training path that will enable you to become the very best that you can be.
This is a varied role and not one day will be the same……variety is definitely the name of the game here!
Graduate Engineer role:
As a graduate you will join and be part of our Graduate Engineer Training Scheme. A two year tailored programme that aims to apply and build upon your skills learnt at University and arm you with the necessary new skills, knowledge and experiences to make you the very best engineer you can be in the ground engineering industry. Along the way you will be looked after, trained, mentored and coached by some of the best in the industry to progress further along the Engineer route and on to Chartership.
Your first few days and weeks will see you introduced to the Company and the team. Early qualifications you will acquire include Health & Safety CSCS certification, this is essentially a safety passport to visit and work on all our sites.
To supervise other people and activities on site you will also be involved with Site Safety Supervisor Training (SSSTS). Other early training include First Aid at Work, Defensive Driving and also how to safely operate a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and Genny to avoid underground services. Additionally you will receive training in Administration, Commercial, Technical and Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality.
The logging of soils and rocks plays a big part in your early career so we put a huge emphasis on training you to use the right standards by experienced engineering geologists.
From day one you will be supported to work through various set goals achieving key skills in order for you and us to track progression.
As soon as possible you will be encouraged to be onsite, shadowing and then supervising all manners of Ground Investigation and will be a key person in delivering our projects to the high standards we are known for.
Initially your site role will be supporting another engineer but when you are ready you will be supervising either your own ground investigation or a section of a larger one.
Although site work plays a large important part of a graduates early career and to ensure we get the right balance for you we strive to give opportunity to our graduate engineers to be engaged with all aspects of a Ground Investigation to learn the necessary skills to produce Reports, Health and Safety Documentation and ensure you have a good appreciation and knowledge in project and commercial planning and management. All these skills will help you develop both along our Graduate Scheme and your own pathway to Chartership.
