Graduate Climate Change and Sustainability Officer (2-year fixed term contract)
£28,731 per annum
(37 hours per week) Hybrid working

About the role
This is a brand new and exciting role which will provide excellent exposure to local government processes and decision making as Runnymede Borough Council drives forward its response to climate change – both to meet its net zero target for its own operations by 2030 and playing a key role in helping the Borough achieve its 2050 net zero target.
The role, which will sit in the Council’s Climate Change team will help the post holder develop their analytical and research skills, as well as their knowledge on a wide range of subjects associated with the Council’s response to climate change. This is likely to be in relation to the retrofitting of buildings, making environmental enhancements, the energy supply to our buildings, greening the Council’s fleet of vehicles and development of strategic policies, as well as other relevant matters.
- The role will involve working with other Council departments, external stakeholders, elected Members and local communities to ensure a joined up and positive response to the challenges we face-helping you to gain key skills in networking and partnership working and develop key communication skills;
- You will have the opportunity to participate in key projects and will work with a range of staff across the organisation;
- You will have a key role to play regarding community engagement and will work closely with the Council’s Communications Team and Web Team to increase awareness and raise the profile of the Council’s climate change work;
- You will help the Council monitor and report on its progress in reducing carbon emissions from the Council’s operations.
About you
We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic, and passionate individual who is looking to progress their career in climate change.
To be successful in this position, you should be qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, ideally with some experience (either professional or voluntary) in a field related to sustainability, protecting the environment or climate change. You should have experience of analysing data and writing reports, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and projects.
With a keen interest in public service and researching complex issues, you will be articulate with excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to liaise effectively with all stakeholders (including politicians).
