The Acumen business’s headquarters are in Knottingley, Yorkshire, and we have a series of waste facilities across England which allow us to deliver comprehensive and wide-ranging services across the entire waste management arena. Our clients range from large corporates to local authorities and environmental regulators, which includes the Environment Agency and the National Trust.
About the role
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, self-motivating Graduate Chemist to join our team across our waste facilities. The successful candidate will learn the processes and support all staff at our sites including hazardous waste transfer, liquid waste treatment and waste recovery sites that are based across North Yorkshire
Some of the duties and responsibilities of this role:
- Completing regulatory paperwork such as consignment notes and duty of care paperwork
- Assessing waste to determine best disposal/treatment route and ensuring the best price is achieved
- Ensuring all hardcopy/computer record systems are kept accurate and up to date
- Support/assist in supervision of the vehicle loading or labelling of drums/tankers etc.
- Ensure the profit margin is maintained and enhanced wherever possible. Understand costs of disposing of material and reduce these where possible
- Receipting, sorting and cataloguing of waste at our hazardous waste transfer station
- Ensure that all company systems are utilised correctly and rigorously to ensure compliance at all stages
- To liaise with customer service to resolve issues such as non-conformance
- Ensuring that all site operations are carried out in compliance with all legislative requirements
- General waste handling/bulking
About your Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
- Degree level qualification in Chemistry or related subject
- Analytical mindset
- Strong chemical awareness

Job Types: Full-time, Graduate
Salary: £23,000.00 per year
