About the opportunity

Jacobs is looking for a Graduate Architectural Assistant to join their central London Design Studio.

Jacobs is hiring a Part 1 Architectural Assistant to support an expanding portfolio of UK and international projects. You will part of design teams providing design solutions across multiple design sectors from commercial, transportation, defence, energy, technology, to local government. Joining us will allow you to build upon your design skills and gain experience on a wide variety of projects at varying stages of development from appraisal, feasibility, concept, through to detailed design delivery.

Working within our Cities & Places business unit, the successful candidate will have a degree in Architecture gaining RIBA Part 1 exemption. As a graduate you will be enrolled on our in-house Graduate Development Programme (GDP) which focuses on continual learning and development through a structured approach of achieving key competencies. Our GDP competencies include learning about Project Delivery, Personal Effectiveness, Business Acumen, Innovation, and HSE in addition to architecturally related learning. The two-year mentored course will provide you with a breadth of professional knowledge and experience in different subject areas.

You will have a collaborative problem-solving mindset and be able to work within a team-based delivery, including working closely with architects, interior designers, urban designers, engineers and other in-house design professionals. The position will involve engaging with clients therefore excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to help build client relationships.

You will be an integral part of the London Architectural team where design thinking, ideas, and solutions are shared openly within an inclusive working environment. You will be given the opportunities to be part of our project execution which focuses on design quality, innovation, and digitally focused delivery.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Promoting the principles of good design, whilst bringing inspiring and innovative design solutions to our increasing diverse project portfolio.
  • Achieving technical quality and technical excellence.
  • Assisting Jacobs deliver our diverse UK and International project portfolio.
  • Being part of our multi-disciplinary design teams.
  • Producing design models, sketches, drawings, and visualisations to suit project delivery.
  • Helping to deliver design solutions to reduce carbon for a more connected and sustainable world.
Here’s What You’ll Need:


The successful candidate will be highly motivated with the ability to work as part of a team. You will be an excellent communicator, capable of presenting your ideas, and be able to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to achieve optimum design solutions.

Other key skills and desired characteristics required for this position include:

  • Being inclusive and upholding a culture of caring within the team.
  • Acting with honesty and integrity at all times.
  • Adopting a flexible design-focused mindset to problem solving.
  • Having a working knowledge of BIM related processes.
  • Modelling experience using Sketch-up, Rhino, and preferably Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience with rendering software.
  • Good communication and listening skills to communicate effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Embracing digital technology, innovation, and automation to drive efficient design solutions.
  • You must have the permanent right to work in the UK.
