We are looking for a Head of Claims – Pharmaceutical and Chemical. This role will be based in our Chicago office.

The Impact You Will Have
Reporting to the Global Head of Key Case Management, the Head of Claims – Pharmaceutical and Chemical will lead a respective Global Practice Group with Top experts from the regional and global claims community by conducting a worldwide operative vehicle for all claims > 1 Mio (medium and large). In addition, the Head of Claims – Pharmaceutical and Chemical will:
  • Deploy the best possible expert for best possible outcome
  • Lead top experts and triage claims, while training potential top experts
  • Ascertain know-how transfer within GPG and to further stakeholders (UW, actuarial)
  • Track developments and prepares findings for regional and global Smart Circles and QRMs, publishes success stories, creates lessons learned (claims scenario testing), spots trends and runs projects (of reputational- or ad hoc impact, foreseeable mega trends).
  • Proactively direct / investigate, negotiate, and resolve medium and high exposure claims, involving complex issues and/or litigation, service orientated, cost effectivity
  • Drive third party service providers to achieve economical results and to provide a high quality service to all internal and external customers


Some of your specific responsibilities could include
  • Investigation and Reserving of Claims - Direct investigation of multi-faceted, high exposure domestic and international claims that involve complex issues and/or litigation, in loss ranges excess of one million Euros
  • Settlement - Negotiate and resolve high exposure, complex claims ensuring cost effective, service orientated solutions
  • Referrals and Compliance - Ensure all claims handled within authority limits, and in line with AGCS Claims complex procedures and guidelines
  • Claims Strategy and Leadership - Support development claims LoB strategy to ensure profitable growth and a strong market position
  • Market Management - Proactively support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business (including client and broker negotiations where necessary)
  • Relationship Management - Positively represent AGCS externally to the market, while proactively driving the involvement of functional areas in Claims handling process, e.g. Underwriting, MMC, ARC, Operations


What You’ll Bring to the Role
  • We are seeking a Claims Professional with 10 -15 years of experience that includes a specialized understanding of Pharmaceutical and Chemical products and portfolio, with technical specialist knowledge and management of systems.
  • We are looking for a strong leader with 10+ years of successful experience leading and developing Claims teams, with an expert knowledge of the local market and competitor landscape.
  • You'll ideally have advanced level knowledge and experience of: Products and Coverages, Claims Handling, Reserving, Reinsurance and Co-Insurance, Litigation, and Market Management.
  • Your experience includes the technical and legal evaluation, coverage analysis, reserving, and defense of pharmaceutical and medical product claims. You work with leading global life science clients to defend and optimally resolve claims, including major mass tort litigation involving blockbuster products.
  • You continually collaborate with underwriters and risk controllers to assist with their core work in the Pharmaceutical and Chemical business areas, while also identifying areas of emerging risk and developing a framework for addressing them.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required; you must build consensus for strategic choices among diverse international stakeholder within the company, with our clients, and with coinsurance markets.
  • Juris Doctor degree preferred
  • German language fluency and other cross-cultural experience preferred.
  • CPCU, AIC/AIC-M professional designations a plus.
  • Using your outstanding relationship building and networking skills, you'll enjoy creating a community of experts and collaborating with our Lines of Business on innovative products and services to drive our Claims agenda.
