Global Public Affairs Strategist
Overview:
PwC’s Global Corporate Affairs & Communications team are currently looking for a dynamic Senior Public Affairs Strategist to join their busy team. The successful Public Affairs Strategist will support the design and execution of global corporate affairs campaigns on topics where business and societal interests intersect - for example tackling climate change, upskilling and corporate governance reform.
Working with a team of channel specialists and drawing on subject matter experts, the successful candidate will help design and deliver multi-channel, multi-stakeholder campaigns that support PwC’s global reputation with external stakeholders and clients; with a particular focus on the EU and engaging multilateral organisations.
We are particularly interested in hearing from people with experience of designing and running public affairs/stakeholder oriented campaigns.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and manage global corporate affairs campaigns from start to finish, with a focus on public affairs and policy related campaigns
Teamwork
Play a positive role within the team and PwC more broadly, collaborating with others, generating ideas and challenging appropriately
Coach junior team members to help improve their skills
Support team wide priorities, including filling in where urgent needs emerge
Strategy
Consult with senior leaders on business, reputation, policy and communication objectives and agree goals
Commission and use relevant insights - for both strategy setting and performance monitoring and evaluation
Build campaign strategy and plans across a full range of communications channels including content creation, events and partnerships, media relations, social media, internal comms and stakeholder engagement; working with channel experts
Develop messaging collaboratively and reach agreement
Create project plans for corporate affairs campaigns with clear timetables, responsibilities and sequencing over multiple months
Agree plans with internal stakeholders in a range of functions including marketing, corporate sustainability, lines of service and senior leadership as well as within the global corporate affairs team
Execution
Work with channel-experts to manage the execution of agreed plans
Drive and project manage campaigns, identifying inputs and contributions from others and coordinating work and contributions from within and beyond the team
Directly execute elements of plans, drawing on the candidate’s capabilities
Successfully steer external communications deliverables through appropriate internal governance checks (Brand, OGC, Risk Management)
Identify and respond to unexpected short-term opportunities and risks
About You:
A strong track record in integrated campaign development and successful execution, reaching stakeholders including governments, NGOs and policy makers
Public affairs expertise in the EU. Someone with a strong understanding of public affairs in Brussels and the ability to effectively manage policy-maker oriented activity. Note: we are not looking for public affairs related relationships within particular countries
A track record of providing trusted counsel to partner-level leaders who are not communications specialists around the design and delivery of modern, multi-channel communications campaigns aimed at global audiences
Particular expertise in public affairs strategy and delivery - note: we are not looking for public affairs related relationships within particular countries
Experience in multi-national and global contexts
A robust understanding of geopolitics, economic trends and other important contextual factors and their implications for what we say and do
Strong project management and organisational skills; ie able to plan, monitor and prioritise
Evidence of having created, and directed the creation, of high quality communication assets including, for example, writing speeches for C-suite leaders, commissioning video content, drafting press releases, drafting briefing materials.
The ability to synthesise and convey complex information in a compelling manner
The ability to communicate confidently and effectively at all levels, both in written and verbal form.
Excellent stakeholder engagement skills; able to listen to and engage effectively with others
The ability to operate effectively under the pressure of last-minute deadlines and changing priorities
Additional Skills & Experience:
Experience of building relationships with globally influential external stakeholders, for example key journalists, international institutions or NGOs
Deep experience of external stakeholder mapping and developing and implementing robust, tailored, engagement plans
Public affairs expertise in the EU is required. Expertise with other multilateral institutions such as the UN, OECD and others is preferred.
