The role
The Central Grocery team is at the forefront of ensuring that Deliveroo strengthens its position as a leader in the 'On Demand Grocery' space.
You will work with our Global Category Management Grocery team, focusing on building the foundations of a global product taxonomy with detailed attribute metadata, and maintaining its quality. You will be a key part of shaping our global product catalogue, enabling us to deliver best in class customer and partner experience.
What you'll be doing
- Foundational work: develop and embed the process to manage metadata, being in charge of relationships with third party providers to improve quality or source new metadata. Utilise data-driven insights to inform taxonomy decisions and changes
- Partnering: engage with multiple stakeholders (legal, product, core grocery, local markets, etc) to build our taxonomy roadmap priorities and use cases. Train teams on taxonomy guidelines and provide ongoing support to ensure best practices are followed.
- Analytics and reporting: conduct reviews and implement plans to improve the metadata quality indicators. Measure the impact of improved taxonomy and metadata and drive continuous improvement through partners.
- Cross-team collaboration: Key business stakeholder driving catalogue automation (image quality checks, taxonomy quality checks, etc) and localization (alignment between local category frameworks and the global taxonomy), working closely with Product, Engineering, Data Science and Analytics teams as well as Markets Grocery leads.
What we are looking for
- Full understanding of item level metadata and taxonomies in the grocery or related spaces
- Problem solving abilities involving identifying the root cause of problems, assessing risks/impacts and determining and implementing effective solutions
- Strong Excel and SQL skills, familiar with BI software (Tableau, Looker or similar)
- Rigorous attention to detail
- Positive entrepreneurial mindset and great at working collaboratively in a high performance, ambiguous, fast paced and hands on environment.
- Preferred:
- Experience in ranging and selection background (retailer or consultancy)
- Experience with multilingual taxonomy creation and management and metadata standards
- Experience of high/low risk item level attributes (e.g. regulations around food safety, pharmaceuticals, etc)
- Experience working with product, engineering and operations to build new functionalities
