The role of the External Communications Manager is to bring this transformation, and the stories showcasing the delivery of our strategy, to life for our external audiences.

This will involve leading the delivery and development of compelling communication strategies and content for external audiences across the automotive, technology, business and lifestyle audience landscape. The individual will also be assigned as a dedicated business partner to a function within the business, where they will support the leadership and wider team on external communications activity, uncover storytelling opportunities and provide trusted expertise and counsel.


The External Communications Manager will be a key member of the Corporate Press Office speaking to journalists, positively resolving media enquiries, drafting statements and position papers as required and securing relevant internal stakeholder input and approvals.

This role will have specialist responsibility for embedding and managing day-to-day delivery of the corporate social media strategy for company owned corporate and leadership channels. A strong understanding of digital channels, alongside a creative and innovative approach with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders are skills vital to success in this role.


It will also involve business critical stakeholder engagement, working with external partners and colleagues at all levels from across the business to agree activity and consistent and clear messaging.

The role is a key role in Jaguar Land Rover’s global Corporate Affairs & Motorsport function.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Supporting communications strategy development and key external communications projects for Corporate Affairs by aligning all messages into one voice through multiple channels to create an authentic and compelling window into the soul of the business.
  • As a storyteller you will manage the creation and delivery of world-class communications campaigns for key priorities, crafting compelling messaging and engaging content to bring the Reimagine strategy and our business performance to life for external audiences.
  • Act as a corporate affairs gatekeeper to effectively manage our reputation, identify and mitigate risk and ensure consistent, precise and accurate messaging in line with our Modern luxury vision across our content and channels.Responsible for delivery of the corporate social media strategy ensuring high-quality, creative content is shared to promote Jaguar Land Rover’s Reimagine strategy.
  • Support with identification and delivery of proactive external content and speaker opportunities for the allocated business partner function – successfully amplifying the work of the team to external audiences and building positive relationships.
  • Work with our International markets and key stakeholders to amplify content globally.
  • Corporate Press Office management, as part of team rota system, monitoring and dealing with media enquiries out of hours as well as drafting and securing approval for content/ statements as required. Supporting and advising team press officers day-to-day as required.
  • Responsible for supporting Executive Directors as required with the delivery of impactful communications on social media, aligning to key business messages and priorities.
  • Developing high-level strategic relationships with core stakeholders, cross functionally to uncover and develop new opportunities and campaigns. This will include Jaguar Land Rover’s senior leadership.
  • Work cross-functionally with other teams including Corporate Affairs & Motorsport, HR Recruitment, Brand teams, Design etc.
  • Collaborate with the wider Internal Communications team to ensure alignment across campaigns.
  • Manage the delivery of briefing documents and briefing spokespeople for events and media opportunities.
  • Manage reporting and evaluation of the impact and performance of projects and campaigns
  • Use data and metrics to manage the effective measurement of social media performance and press coverage tonality, volume and share of voice and make continuous improvement recommendations to improve performance.


WHAT YOU'LL NEED


Essential

  • Excellent communications experience in transformation and global campaigns
  • Excellent media understanding and handling skills
  • Excellent leadership skills of managing a team
  • Demonstrable ability to make the complex simple: producing communications which are relevant and comprehendible for all levels of the company to meet key objectives
  • Commercially astute – used to working in a business environment
  • Able to negotiate and influence (including at senior executive level) across the organisation
  • Managing sensitive communications issues
  • Exceptional creative storytelling abilities – with the ability to bring change to life creatively through a variety of media including digital and experiential
  • Excellent communication skills – both spoken and written
  • Experience of the production and management of content and/or events, including press release/pack production, photo/film shoots/briefs/storyboards as required
  • Knowledge of key communications and engagement practices – both tactical and strategic
  • Strong ability to organise self and others, operate independently with minimal direction as well as in a team and prioritise own and team workloads in order to meet tight deadlines
  • A strong understanding of social and media campaign monitoring and reporting
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • A good level of IT competence is required in programmes such as Excel, Word and Power Point


Desirable:

  • Experienced in events management
  • Digital content production skills – including filming, editing and photography.
  • Working in stand-alone communications role with large organisation and/or a diverse customer group
  • Automotive or similar manufacturing/engineering sector experience

  • With a strong background in communications you will be a self-starter with a solid understanding of how to bring corporate stories and messaging to life creatively for external audiences.
  • A natural and creative communicator, you’ll have an exceptional storytelling ability; an eye for what makes a great story and the gift to tell it simply to a diverse audience.
  • Familiar with current communications trends, you’ll have a track record of delivering campaign content across traditional and digital channels.
  • With a passion for measuring impact and performance – you'll have a dedicated focus on evaluating how all campaigns and content performed with an eye on continuous improvement.
  • You’ll have the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, both inside and outside the business, and form strong networks to deliver.
  • You must be a strong and independent self-starter with a can-do attitude and the ability to hit the ground running, work flexibly and perform under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • An inspiring leader, you will know how to effectively manage a team/support peers to get the best from people; nurturing and supporting their growth so that they deliver for the business and fulfil their true potential.
