Job description
Geospatial Drone Specialist
- UK Based, remote position
- £25,000 - £35,000 depending on experience
Summary:
Future Aerial is looking for a geospatial professional with a passion for reality capture and background in surveying, drones, photogrammetry or GIS to play a key role in creating digital assets of the physical world. This role would be a work-from-home position with lots of opportunity to travel both within the UK and Internationally.
We are looking for candidates that have 2 or more years’ relevant experience who are looking for a new challenge. You will be working as a part of a small and dynamic team and will be responsible for capturing, processing and quality assuring 3D terrain data before delivering to clients – high attention to detail is essential to the role. The ideal candidate will be someone who is self-motivated and eager to learn new technologies, with a keen interest in drones and geospatial technology.
Company Description:
Future Aerial is one of the longest established drone services companies in the UK, pioneering the use of drones across an array of sectors since 2012. From Games Simulation to National Infrastructure, Earthworks Surveys to Asset Inspections.
Our team are experts in reality capture, completing over 200 projects around the world every year. The team is made up of a mix of experienced project managers, GIS professionals and seasoned drone operators. We conduct drone mapping missions across almost every continent, with surveys taking place in America, Asia and Europe every month.
Having mapped some of the world’s most recognisable sporting locations and construction projects, we use survey-grade GPS equipment and drones to create highly accurate digital twins of real-world locations for the games simulation and construction sectors, providing our clients with high quality topographic deliverables, 3D models and more.
Due to recent growth, we are looking to expand our team – Future Aerial are a fast moving and well-established start-up engaged in cutting edge innovation projects in the drone sector such as the UKRI Future Flight Challenge. We are committed to a progressive and flexible work environment as well as career development opportunities for all our team members.
Role:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, we are looking for a team player with a solid foundation in drone and surveying fundamentals. The role will include the collection, processing and delivery of topographic drone data. This role will predominantly focus on our work in sport games simulation and construction, with plenty of opportunity for travel, both within the UK and overseas to collect drone data.
Flying drones is central to what we do at Future Aerial – Previous experience of all aspects of drone surveying and mapping is highly desirable; from risk assessments to flight planning, communicating with clients and processing data. Candidates with existing A2CofC or GVC qualifications are preferred. You will be expected to undertake drone surveys both individually and as part of the wider team for larger projects.
A key responsibility of this role will include the creation of geospatial terrain data within photogrammetry (Agisoft Metashape) and GIS (Global Mapper) software. The successful candidate will ideally be experienced in using photogrammetry software, combining GPS data and drone imagery to produce accurate spatial datasets.
The clean-up and manual manipulation of Digital Elevation Models (DEM) is an equally crucial aspect of our workflow for producing a high-quality product for game simulation. A meticulous eye for detail is essential for ensuring our terrain data accurately represents the physical environment that has been mapped.
The role will also include organising drone surveys across all continents and delivering data to clients. The ideal candidate should be confident in communicating with international clients both in person and via web conference.
This role is a work-from-home position with all equipment provided. We use Global Mapper for our GIS workflow. However, any candidate with knowledge of QGIS or ArcGIS would be able to pick up Global Mapper quickly. Full training on the data processing workflow would be provided.
