2. Job purpose
To work as part of the Logistics Services Team and carry out a variety of tasks associated with the delivery of a high quality and efficient Portering Service.

Experience
· Experience of working in a health care environment is an advantage but not essential
as training in all aspects of the job will be provided.
5. Key result areas
- Primary duty is the provision of a quality service in the transportation of patients and non patient tasks between wards and departments within the Site and associate areas by: wheelchair, trolley stretcher or any other means necessary.
- To deliver good principles of customer care ensuring helpfulness, awareness and compassion to patients, visitors, staff and colleagues.
- Transportation and connection of medical gas cylinders as required, completing all documentation as necessary.
- The transportation of deceased patients to the Mortuary.
- The collection and delivery of patient’s notes, specimens and X-rays as required.
- Movements of beds and furniture.
- To undertake general duties of a routine or non routine nature.
- Responsibility to return wheelchairs and all other portering equipment to approved storage areas.
- Responsibility to check all equipment before use and report any defects to the Portering Team Leader, taking such action as may be necessary to remove the defective equipment from use until repaired.
- To ensure effective communication and response times, through a two way radio conversation or other communication systems.
- To undertake training as required fulfilling this role and any further training which will enhance both personal effectiveness and also the delivery of high standards of service.
- To ensure the effective removal of waste from wards and departments to disposal areas.
- At times may be required to assist with the collection, sorting and distribution of internal post.
- At times may be required to assist with the receipt, storage and onward dispatch of equipment, supplies and materials.
- To work co-operatively with colleagues as part of the team and perform additional duties as and when directed by the Portering Team Leaders / Logistics Duty Managers
- Transportation and Delivery of Non Patient Stock, including PPE and general medical stores.
6. Health and Safety
You must take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts and omissions including staff, patients and visitors to the hospital.
You must co-operate fully with management in ensuring compliance with health and safety at work act (HASAWA1974)
Be aware of all health and safety policies and procedures i.e fire infection control etc.

8. Data protection
All staff having access to computer information are subject to the Data Protection Act 1984.
