We have an opportunity for a General Operative to join our busy team in Huddersfield on a full time, permanent basis. You will receive a competitive hourly rate plus great benefits.
Johnsons Wellfield operates a highly sophisticated stone production facility from its Crosland Hill Quarries in Huddersfield which is part of the progressive family-owned Myers Group.
Renowned for the supply of premium block stone for finished masonry and natural stone paving products supplied across the UK. With an excellent local presence in the aggregates sector and an inert landfill, we are looking for a self-motivated individual to join our team at Crosland Hill Quarries.

As General Operative your main duties and key responsibilities will include:
- Manufacturing natural stone masonry products Manufacturing natural stone paving
- Undertake operational requirements as specified by your line manager as and when required, undertaking relief support activities for production operations related functions
- Ensure that you only operate plant that you are trained and authorised to operate. Work in a safe manner to ensure the health and safety of yourself and others
- Ensure that all near misses, non-injury incidents, minor injuries and LTIs you are involved in or witness are reported to your line manager
- Carry out daily, weekly and monthly checks (safety and maintenance) as required and document accordingly
- Operate equipment efficiently
- Demonstrate good housekeeping practices and look after machinery.
- Undertake driving activities in a safe manner, acting respectfully to customers, business management and the public alike
- Maintain a close liaison with the production manager and Supervisors, keeping them informed on all such matters that may impact on production operations
- Maximise opportunities for reducing costs and implementing improvements for increasing efficiency. Ensure all production is within quality assurance guidelines and complies with the company policy
- Ensure that the Companies product is handled and stored correctly, taking care not to damage the product, Company property or existing stored products
- Ensure that you comply with the Company health, safety and environmental policies and procedures
- Communicate efficiently with all members of the team
- Attend meetings and group discussions where required
- Any other reasonable duties which may be required by the Company from time to time, as instructed by or under the direction of your immediate supervisor
Preferred skills, experience and attributes:
- Able to operate machines, after suitable training provided.
- Sound knowledge of dimensional stone product and materials
- Must have excellent communication skills
- Must be self-motivated, have strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to solve problems at source
- Forklift Truck
- Excellent approach to Health & Safety
- Able to work on own initiative
- Must be flexible
