Job description
The opportunity has arisen for a full time, permanent general farm worker and tractor driver for our busy, family run, mixed farm and contracting business. Farming 700 acres of arable (cereal crops as well as maize & potatoes) and grassland, ourselves, along with 200 beef cattle, 350 ewes & their lambs,150 store pigs as well as turkeys for Christmas all to supply our busy Farm Shop.
We are a family run farm and are all involved in the day to day work. This role offers a very diverse range of work and is a great opportunity to gain experience in such a variety of farming operations.
Day to day responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
· Checking, Feeding, Bedding and general livestock husbandry, ensuring animal health and welfare
· Electric fencing & movement of stock
· Reporting issues or observations
· Tractor driving; The role encompasses a wide variety of tractor work to include:
- · Straw Chopper
- · Feeder Wagon
- · Telehandler
- · Cultivation
- · Topping
- · Raking
- · Baling
- · Wrapping
- · Trailer hauling
- · Muck spreading
· Keeping the farm and equipment clean and safe to operate
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate
· Competent animal husbandry skills, such as feeding, checking, TB testing, monitoring sickness and behaviour, bio-security protocols and general stock keeping skills.
· Competent tractor & machinery operations
· Someone who is mechanically minded and has an appreciation for maintaining good kit. We expect clean tidy and well-maintained machines.
· Excellent communication skills and an ability to work well within a team and alone
· Honesty and co-operation are important along with a clean & tidy appearance
· Telehandler certificate would be an advantage
We are looking for someone with a positive attitude who is willing to work to deliver high standards. Previous experience is required, but not necessarily on all of the above. Training can be provided to the right candidate.
In return for your efforts, we will provide a competitive salary based on your experience, alongside holiday and a pension scheme. Overtime is paid on additional hours worked.
Ideally this is a long term position on a busy farm. However, we will consider all options, including part time or self employed. Must be a multi-skilled individual who is as happy sorting through cattle as they are sat on a tractor.
There is no accommodation provided with this role, but this will be reflected in the remuneration. Provision of mobile home accommodation would be considered for the right candidate.
Driving licence required.
